I have been available for adoption since Jun 04, 2026.
Age: The shelter thinks I am about 2 years old.
Weight: I weigh approximately 42.00 lbs.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Jun 04, 2026.
Meet Dakota, a 2-year-old neutered Pit Bull mix who comes in the highly desirable compact size package—just 42 pounds of athletic talent, growing confidence, and fetch-related obsession.
When Dakota first arrived at the shelter, he was overwhelmed by all the noise and activity. The barking dogs were definitely not his favorite audience, and his main goal was to exit the kennel building as quickly as possible. Thanks to patient volunteers spending time with him, Dakota has made incredible progress and is blossoming into a playful, affectionate companion.
These days, Dakota is discovering that people are actually pretty great. He may still be a little shy with new people and in unfamiliar situations, but he's getting braver every day. He's becoming more comfortable being handled and has recently unlocked a new feature: leaning into pets and affection.
Dakota enjoys toys, but let's be honest—they're just a warm-up act. His true passion is FETCH. Not casual fetch. Professional-level fetch. This guy catches balls mid-air like he's auditioning for ESPN and then politely delivers them right back to your feet, ready for the next throw. Shelter volunteers would like it noted that Dakota is significantly better at fetch than most humans.
He's also extremely treat motivated, which means training should be both productive and delicious. Dakota seems friendly with other dogs through the fence and often shows positive interest in his canine neighbors.
If you're looking for a sweet dog who's gone from nervous newcomer to aspiring fetch champion, Dakota is ready to continue his journey with a family of his own. All he needs is a little patience, a few treats, and someone willing to throw the ball approximately 4,000 times a day.
