I am a spayed female, black and white Border Collie mix.
Age: The shelter staff think I am about 6 months old.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Oct 14, 2026.
My name is Rugrat and I am a black & white border collie/mix. I am a spayed female and I am 6 months old. I was transferred here from another shelter/rescue through the Ames Animal Shelter's Third Chance program on 10/14/2026. I didn't do anything wrong to be transferred. That shelter was getting a bit full and asked for the Ames Animal Shelter's help. I had a great time getting to know their staff and volunteers, and I'm super excited to be here at this shelter to find my forever home!
I can live with an owner with no prior pet owning experience, but I can be just a little shy when meeting new people. Taking me for lots of walks and meeting new people will help me with that a lot. The shelter staff is not sure if I am used to being crated during the day, but I'm fairly comfortable with being kept in a kennel run at the shelters. I get along with women and children. I do great with men too, but it takes me a little extra time to warm up to them. I haven't been tested with cats or other dogs, but the shelter staff believes I would do great with proper introductions.
All dogs are tested for heartworms and given flea preventatives. They are also tested for intestinal parasites and receive routine deworming. Dogs are vaccinated against distemper, rabies, and bordetella, spayed/neutered before adoption, and have a microchip. Adoption fees include the initial automated registration of the microchip at the time of adoption.
