Description: I am a neutered male, black and white Domestic Shorthair.
Age: The shelter staff think I am about 1 year old.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Sep 15, 2026.
MEET HAMMERHEAD!

Hammerhead was born outside and spent more time with other cats than humans; we call these cats Community Cats. He would do best with a social cat in his new home to show him the ropes; he can often be found snuggling up to another cat in our Colony room. We've been able to make a great deal of progress in socializing him, and here are some things his new family should keep in mind:
When you first bring him home, cats like Hammerhead will spend some time in hiding: for the best transition, we highly recommend confining your new cat to a room where they can learn about their new surroundings but still feel secure. A small space such as a guest room or a home office are good choices.
Slow transition: After living outside, being in a home can be scary to a Community Cat, so remember to be patient while they get used to their new new nest.
For best results...do your homework and be patient! Most cats love food and using stinky wet food and Churu treats is a great way for you to bond with you new cat. Using a back scratcher to pet your cat while you're giving them tasty food will help them to associate petting with good things. Reserve the special food for the moments you can bond with your cats. We recommend this at least twice a day. It doesn't need to be a long time but it should always end with your cat wanting more...more food, more play and eventually, more pets.
Hammerhead is currently up to date on all vaccinations, have been neutered, microchipped and seen by our vet team.
