MEET KEVIN!

Kevin is a 12 week old high energy kitten with a condition known as Cerebellar Hypoplasia, (CH). This condition can develop when a Mother cat is infected with the feline panleukopenia virus while she is pregnant. This condition can range from mild to moderate to severe and can also be sporadic where some cats exhibit the symptoms on and off.

Kevin has a moderate form of CH. This means he exhibits noticeable/disruptive jerky and uncoordinated walking, swaying from side to side and distinct head tremors. Although the condition itself doesn’t cause Kevin pain, accidents can occur as a result of his condition so special preparations need to happen in the home to keep Kevin safe and unharmed. He should not have access to stairs or elevated surfaces (without safety precautions put into place) to prevent falls. His movements often result in him hitting his head on various surfaces, so sharp corners should be buffed and his main areas should have soft flooring and walls if possible. His nails should be allowed to stay long so he can gain better traction and flooring should be carpeted to prevent him from sliding around when he walks and to buffer his inevitable falls.

Kevin uses elevated food and water bowls that allow him to keep himself upright during eating/drinking since he “bobs” during feeding. His litter box has a low sided entrance on one entire side and tall walls on the other three sides which help him when he uses the toilet.

Kevin is currently in a foster home with a dog, a cat and a rowdy child and plays with all of them. Ideally, he would have a playmate in his new home because he is very nippy during play and the best teacher of good manners is another animal.
