100% housetrained — no accidents or marking.
Would love a quieter neighborhood with access to a backyard.
Not a picky eater and very treat motivated!
Cat friendly! He was swatted by the resident cat and didn’t react at all.
Arthur came to the shelter with his sister Joy, and seems to enjoy canine companionship.
He recently had a meet and greet with a female Bernese mountain dog and did wonderfully! Greeted her nicely and kindly sniffed her.
He spent a few days in foster with three other dogs and was relaxed and comfortable having them around.
He is great at picking up on routines - knows his bedtime routine and morning routine now.
In the mornings, he will sleep in and wait patiently for you to take him outside.
He has been left alone for up to 7 hours uncrated with no accidents and no destructive behavior, doesn’t need to be crated.
He goes up stairs easily, but can be a little clumsy coming back down.
He will jump into the car on his own, but needs a small boost (I have an SUV). Once he’s in, he rides very nicely.
Overall:
Arthur is such a sweet, easy dog to have around. It took him a few days to fully settle in, but once he did he quickly learned my routine.
He arrived at the shelter in very poor condition. It’s been a little over a month in foster now, and he’s had a complete glow up! He finally recovered from a 2 week URI, he got neutered and had a small tumor removed, he had surgery to correct his entropion eyelids, and his yeasty/itchy skin has improved so much with his weekly baths (he loves bath time). The hardest parts are behind him. He’s come so far, and I got him to a great point where he is ready to be adopted and find his forever.
The main note about Arthur is that he is not a city dog. I live in Uptown on the top floor of an apartment building, directly next to the highway. While he’s great inside my tiny apartment, he would do much better in a quieter neighborhood with access to a yard. Uptown is too stressful for him, and it’s starting to show on the leash when we go out for walks. He would love not having to use an elevator to get outside!
After what seems like a lifetime of neglect, Arthur is finally getting the care he deserves. Arthur is such an easy dog to have around, he’s so smart and loves to help me out with whatever I’m doing around the apartment, even if it doesn’t require help from any dogs :) He’s a great listener, and has so much love to give. Please give Arthur a chance and you won’t regret welcoming him into your home. He will be a great companion to have by your side.
