Weight: 66 pounds
More Info: I was picked up in Charlotte.
I have been at the shelter since May 21, 2026.

Meet Theodore! He’s a very good boy and deserves an amazing home!
- Adorable big block head who is somewhat timid, but is SO sweet.
- Walks nicely on a leash.
- Loves lots of treats and long sniff walks.
- Enjoys lots of pets and will come back for more!
- Excited but otherwise nonreactive to other leashes dogs- slow introductions always needed.
- Such a happy boy with the biggest smile.
Knows: Sit, Stay, Leave It
Working on: Center, Place, Come, Crate — progressing well on all as he is treat motivated. Will take treats very gently. Is rewarded by a loud 'yes!' and 'ok' as his break word
Other dogs: Currently flagged as possibly needing a single-dog household, though this may improve with training. Appears to be excited/overstimulated rather than aggressive reactive — tenses up and fixates/watches other dogs, doesn't like being pulled away, but will snap out of it if a clicker is involved. Will reassess once neutered.
Good with cats: Likely not cat-savvy yet; slow, careful intro needed
Good with kids: Untested up close — has calmly watched kids walk/run by from a distance, no reaction. Slow, supervised intro recommended
House-trained: Yes, with a few accidents along the way
Crate trained: Unlikely, but we are working on it by placing breakfast and dinner inside to associate with high value.
Resource guarding: None viewed so far
Leash/harness manners: Excellent, stays close by your side; squirrel-motivated so vigilance + finger clicker recommended on walks. I'm still not totally sure how he would do with another dog on a walk yet, so we are doing early morning and late night walks with potty breaks in the backyard during the day.
Temperament with new people: A little shy/reserved at first, warms up quickly and personality comes out once comfortable
Sound sensitivity: Best to preview new loud things once — settles right down after the first exposure and doesn't react again
Storms: Mildly nervous during thunderstorms, appreciates a calm presence that will help drown out the noise and stay with him.
Play style: Silly and playful; loves to retrieve sticks and toys, but hasn't learned to bring the toy back yet. Loves to run around. Adores his squeaky toy.
Affection level: Believes himself to be a lapdog — loves to cuddle, also sleeps right at your feet
General demeanor: Curious about the world, loves being included in family activities. Very gentle and gentlemanly. A very happy boy. 65lbs of joy. Active dreamer- moves around in his sleep
