Description: My name is Billy.
I am a neutered male, black and white Australian Shepherd.

Age: I am an adult animal
More Info: I am available for adoption now!
Handsome Billy is a 4.5 year old (born Oct 31, 2021), 35-40 pound miniature Australian shepherd that was adopted from ARM but is having issues living with another dog in the home. His owners are tearfully doing what is best for Billy by helping him find another home. From his loving owners: We are looking to re-home our dog Billy to a home where he can be the only dog or a home where his resource guarding can be better managed than we were able to handle. It's a very hard choice, but after much thought, we determined it's best for him, our other dogs, and us. He will be up for adoption through Aussie Rescue Minnesota, the wonderful nonprofit organization that we adopted him and Zoie and Ziggy from. He will stay here with us in Grand Rapids until we find a suitable foster or new home. Please help us get the word out. He's an incredible dog and in the right home is going to thrive. He's 4.5 years old, born Oct 31, 2021. He is a 35-40 pound miniature Australian shepherd. He is healthy and up to date on all vaccinations. We adopted him when he was 5 months old. He is playful and goofy and loves to give hugs, be petted by his people, fetch frisbees, go swimming, hike, and take a nap in a cool place. He's kennel trained, house trained, walks good on leash. He's been through three obedience classes and has great recall, is very obedient with commands once he trusts someone, and can do several tricks. He's honestly a perfect dog except for being shy and resource guarding. He is shy with strangers but does warm up and will take treats from strangers. He's particularly fond of women but accepting of men. He is wary of children and would do best in a home without them. The trait that has made us determine he needs a new home is resource guarding food, toys, people (like me), and places from other dogs. He is willing to share these things with people, but he is very protective and can occasionally be aggressive when other dogs come near. He isn't aggressive all the time. 95% of the time he plays great with other dogs, but 5% of the time he resource guards and causes fights. We've done a lot to try to manage this in a multi dog house, but our management has failed. We are really hoping there is someone out there who can give him the life he needs and deserves! The ideal situation would be a home with no other dogs and no kids. Thank you for helping us try to find this for him! The details: Needs fence: No Good with dogs: not to live with. He does great at the boarding kennel with no toys. Good with cat: yes Good with kids: no small kids All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. All dogs have an adoption fee of $400 plus MN sales tax. We pride ourselves on matches that are awesome for both the dog and your family. Aussie Rescue of MN is here for support, advice and as a safety net for our dogs for the rest of their lives.
