About:
Nipsey is a handsome boy who was surrendered to the shelter after three years in a home. In that home Nipsey was house and crate trained and was well- behaved when left home alone. He was described by his former family as an affectionate couch potato who loves toys, likes car rides and wants nothing more than to be close to his people. Here’s what friends at the shelter have said:
“Nipsey is a friendly and wiggly boy with the softest fur! Super eager to go out, we spent some time together in a play yard. He knows sit and takes treats gently. He alternated between exploring the yard and sitting next to me for pets- he particularly loves booty scratches. He's a very nice dog who seems a little bit stressed in the noisy shelter environment and could use a break.”
“I love Nipsey!! He is a complete sweetie pie in a play yard and today I learned what a tolerant and VERY GOOD boy he is with being handled and bathed! I brought him over to the grooming room and with a couple of treats tossed in, he jumped right into the grooming tub! He’s the first dog who’s ever done that for me! He was completely tolerant, patient and mellow while I gave him a shower. He didn’t try to get out of the tub and just leaned up against me and let me wash him. He let me soap him up, rub him all over, scrub, rinse, and towel dry! He was even patient as I used a comb to pull off a couple things stuck in his fur and near his eye! He loved the extra snuggle time afterwards, and so did I!”
Available for foster care (30+ Day) or adoption through PACC.
Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the COB Sunday October 11th deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.
Home Management Plan
1) BITE HISTORY
• Incident Details: minor bite to child when child was standing near dog, unknown exact circumstances
2) NO KIDS
• Nipsey is not suitable for a home with children.
• Reason: Bite to child
• Management: For safety and comfort, they should be in an adult-only home where interaction can be calm, predictable, and structured.
3) DOG INTRODUCTION REQUIRED
• Reason: Dog selective, uninteruptable latch on in playgroup
• Slow, Structured Introductions: Introductions must be gradual and carefully managed in neutral territory. Monitor all body language closely, and end sessions on a positive note.
• Muzzle Training: It is recommended to condition Nipsey to a comfortable basket muzzle before introductions. This provides safety and allows for positive experiences during early meetings.
• No Dog Parks: Nipsey should not attend dog parks or other uncontrolled environments. These settings can overwhelm or trigger negative interactions, making progress more difficult.
• Behaviors could improve with proper management and/or professional training.
4) DOG SELECTIVE
• Required Dog Meetings: Nipsey must meet all resident dogs prior to adoption to ensure compatibility.
• Selective Play Style: They prefer to choose their own friends - they may get along well with some dogs but not with all dogs. Introductions should be monitored closely for positive body language and relaxed interactions.
• Muzzle Training: Conditioning them to a muzzle before introductions is recommended. This provides an added layer of safety while keeping initial meetings low-stress.
• No Dog Parks: Nipsey should not attend dog parks or other uncontrolled social settings. These environments can lead to negative experiences and may set back progress.
• Behaviors could improve with proper management and/or professional training.
5) CONTAINMENT ISSUES
• Nipsey has a known history of escaping enclosed spaces or roaming when unsupervised.
• Escape Method: Jumping over barriers
• Supervision and Safety: Keep them on leash until fully acclimated to the home and routine. Do not leave unattended outdoors or in unsecured areas.
