Bio: Nico is our resident crotchety old man type- he can give a bit of a “get off my lawn” kind of vibe in his kennel, but he’s all talk- he’s one of the most affectionate dogs in the shelter and is a HUGE volunteer favorite! Nico spent about a month in one foster home- here’s what we learned:
- Nico likes all people and did great with kids 12 and 14
- He’s a sweet dog and a couch potato
- He slept next to his foster people at night
- He was housebroken and was calm when left home alone
- His foster described him as sweet and gentle and said that he LOVES attention
Here’s what volunteers at the shelter have said:
“Nico is a LOVER!! It was my first time meeting him yesterday. He barked at me as I opened the door to his kennel but was easy to leash overall. Nico was an easy, wonderful walking buddy. He set a great pace and had the cutest trot as we walked around the park. I knelt down to pet him at one point and he immediately approached for pets and put his entire body in my lap! He gave lots of kisses and was sweet and confident. He’s such a wonderful boy!”
“I met Nico for the first time tonight. Once the leash was on, he trotted right out. He had a loose, wagging tail on the way to the play yard and seemed happy to be out of the kennel. In the yard, Nico was very affectionate! I sat down and he climbed right on my lap, just wanting to be pet and loved on, and gave me lots of kisses. Very sweet boy!”
Nico has also been on more field trips and pawjama parties than he can count on both paws and always does great!
“Nico slept through the night and had no accidents. Takes treats gently and likes to snuggle. Gives kisses and lots of tail wagging. Took walks on our rural property- I think he would love hiking. Excellent companion.”
“Nico is a gentle sweetheart. Why anyone gave this sweet guy up is beyond me. He was wonderful to everyone he met. Always curious about his surroundings. Likes squeaky toys and treats. A perfect gentleman!”
“Nico would make an excellent family dog! He is very sweet natured and loving. He loved to be with us, go on walks, follow us around the house and hang out on the couch. He is very mellow and easy going. Nico would make a wonderful companion and we could tell he was used to being with people and in a home. Highly recommend!! He also is smart and so easy to train.”
Nico also participated in a public dog walk:
“Nico is a talker, but once we got away from the crowds he was so happy and full of energy to go on our walk! I let him take me where he wanted to go and we had a great walk! Nico was so full of energy and ready for his walk, and once it was just us he was very calm and happy to explore. He was a great listener and sat when I wanted to give him a treat.”
We’d say those are pretty rave reviews for Nico! Nico shares his kennel with another PACC pup and kept to himself when meeting other dogs in playgroup. He’d like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to makes sure it’s a good fit. Ask to meet Nico today!!
