Bio: Pandas are generally shy, reclusive, and solitary animals that prefer to avoid humans and stay hidden in their forest habitats. Our sweet, sensitive Panda is also shy, but he’s working hard to learn trust and form bonds with his human friends. Panda was confiscated from his from his former home and has been understandably overwhelmed in the noisy shelter environment. Here’s what one volunteer said:
“I have such a soft spot for Panda and I do think he’s making progress and getting a bit more brave day by day. The first time I met him I had a hard time getting him leashed up and out to a play yard, but since then he seems to recognize me and is much more willing to head out for some fresh air. In a play yard he sniffs and explores, and he allows me to gently scratch his back. I turned away from him at one point and when I wasn’t looking at him, I felt his nose on my hand. When I turned to look at him he gave me small tail wag which was so heartwarming. He’ll take time to warm up to a new family, but I absolutely believe this boy has a huge amount of love to share.”
“This was my first time meeting Panda today and he is such a sweet and gentle boy! When I first approached his kennel he was unsure of me, but I knelt down and talked sweetly to him as I let him smell my hand. He came up to me while making his rounds, exploring the play yard. I sat down on a bench and his kennel mate jumped up next to me and he jumped up too! He allowed pets to his chin as he walked by and he even sat on the ground next to me for a short while so that I could give him love. He’s a very good boy who has come so far!”
“I worked with Panda this morning. He walked out fairly well and once away from the shelter he walked well with lots of sniffing. He had a sit down with treats and pets. Good walk back and easy unleash.”
Panda enjoys spending time with other dogs in playgroup and might do best with a calm, confident furry friend who can show him the ropes in a new home. If you have a soft place in your heart for tender pup who needs some extra time and TLC, please ask to meet Panda today!
