Bio: Meet the lovely Mama Smurf! Her honey eyes and sweet disposition will melt your heart. This girl is a morning dog and loves to play fetch and run (and bounce!) around for a while each morning. Then she settles in for a nap and occasionally bark at any strangers (aka Amazon delivery drivers) that might be approaching the front door. She prefers that her evenings be spent on the couch next to her human or outside on the patio chewing on her tennis ball and watching the sun go down.

Mama loves all the toys, but particularly rope toys, balls, and a bone to chew on. She is very treat motivated and is learning commands like a champ. She has “sit” and “down” perfected and is working on “stay”. Mama is house trained and is a joy around the house. Her foster also noted that Mama settles down well when the foster leaves the house and usually uses that away time to nap some more.

*Medical information: Mama Smurf is in isolation for a short while longer until she can be retested for canine distemper. Mama Smurf originally came in with her puppies, who tested positive for canine distemper. Mama has shown no signs of having the disease and will be retested in the near future. Her foster has been keeping her active running around the yard and playing a lot of fetch with her!

Distemper virus comes from the community and is easily contracted in underage or under vaccinated pets. Please remember to vaccinate and booster your pets with the core canine vaccines. Adult, fully vaccinated dogs are immune to this virus and safe to have Smurf around. She has done well with dogs in her previous home and with proper intros likely to continue doing so in your home. Consider Pre-adopting her today! email pacc.medicalfoster@pima.gov with any questions.
