Bio: Kimchi is a staple in Korean cuisine consisting of salted, fermented vegetables. The most common variety is made from napa cabbage and radishes seasoned with gochugaru (Korean chili powder), garlic, ginger, and scallions. Kimchi must be fermented for several days in order to reach its peak. Just like our favorite fermented foods, some dogs take time to warm up and overcome the adversity they have faced. One such pup is our very own Kimchi! Kimchi came to PACC after being saved from a hoarding situation where she did not have reliable access to food, water, or human interaction.
Kimchi is a resilient girl who is learning to trust people and recently had the great fortune to spend a few weeks in foster. We learned more about her special personality, excellent house manners and needs. In one home Kimchi successfully lived with multiple cats. She also lived with a large dog who she gained comfort from. Kimchi was understandably very nervous to come into a new home and it took a couple of weeks for her to begin to gain confidence and comfort with her family and surroundings. After settling in she was a very respectful houseguest; she was house and crate trained and quiet.
“Kimchi is reserved and quiet. She has the most beautiful smile. She would smile when I called her name. She needs more time and commitment to reintegrate her into social life. A funny story; I was taking dog pictures at the park. She has this beautiful, big smile, and her coat looks golden in the sun. I would make my big dog sit, and I would try to make her sit as well. She wanted to hide under my dog. She felt safe with my dog.”
Kimchi again successfully lived with cats during another foster stay. In this home she was also house trained and went into her crate for comfort.
“When Kimchi takes a nap she likes to lift her legs up on the crate! And she takes her lambchop toy everywhere!”
Her family was very impressed with her very good leash manners and the fact that she completely ignored the family cats.
Here’s what one friend at the shelter said:
“Miss Kimchi is doing better week by week. She’s easy to leash up and take to a play yard. She walked beautifully to the yard today. She loves chilling with her kennelmate. She’s a sweet girl!”
Kimchi shares her kennel with another PACC pup and has been independent when meeting other dogs in playgroup. She is looking for a loving, patient, and understanding furever family who can provide her with patience, consistent care, predictability, and time to settle into a new home. She may do very well having a doggy friend in a new home to help her gain confidence and learn the routine. If you believe that every dog deserves a happy ending, come meet Kimchi today!
