Hi, I’m Gumdrop ??
I’m a 1-year-old Terrier mix who is looking for a very special kind of home.
I’m a smart little guy who has made a lot of progress since arriving at the shelter. I’ve been working hard on my leash skills using a Transitional Leash, which helps me stay focused during walks, and I continue to improve every day.
I've been adopted twice now, and unfortunately both homes discovered that I wasn't the right fit for their families. Most recently, I became uncomfortable with one of the male members of the household and attempted to bite him. While no one was injured, it made it clear that I need a home with someone who understands dogs like me and has experience working through behavioral challenges.
Because of this, I am looking for an experienced adult-only home. I would not do well in a busy household with lots of visitors or young children. I thrive best in a calm, predictable environment where I know what to expect.
I do seem to have a preference for women, though I can absolutely form positive relationships with some men as well. My future family should be patient, willing to earn my trust, and committed to helping me continue building confidence at my own pace.
The good news is that once I know and trust my people, I'm a fun little dog with plenty of personality. I enjoy my walks, love spending time with the people I've bonded with, and have so much potential in the right hands.
Gumdrop isn't looking for just any home—he's looking for his home. The kind of home where his family understands him, respects his boundaries, and is willing to help him continue becoming the best dog he can be.
For the right experienced adopter, Gumdrop has so much love and loyalty to give. He's simply waiting for someone who sees past his challenges and recognizes the wonderful little dog underneath. ????
Gumdrop is neutered, dewormed, microchipped and is up to date with vaccines. His adoption fee is $500.00, plus $8.50 for the dog license if you are a resident of NYC. Gumdrop will also get one free exam with one of our participating veterinarians within 30 days of his adoption.
If you'd like to meet him please visit, we're conveniently located in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn near the F train (Ft Hamilton Pkwy) and the B16 bus. We're open daily for adoptions from 11am to 5:30pm.
