Animal information

57333172

Located At: Fairfax County Animal Shelter - Lorton Campus
Description: My name is Sobe.
I am a male, brown and white Mixed Breed.

Age: The shelter staff think I am about 1 year and 9 months old.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Nov 23, 2024.
What *did* happen at the dog factory the day Sobe was made?

It feels like someone hit “randomize” and walked away. Tongue of a Burmese python? Yes. Brain of a distracted hamster? Cool. Skin? So much of it. More than necessary. Possibly meant for a Great Dane—or three.

Sobe is about 1.5 years old and a solid 60 pounds of “what is happening?” He’s technically a young adult, but spiritually and behaviorally, he’s a chaotic toddler with four legs, no self-awareness, and one very floppy tongue that lives permanently outside his mouth.

He will slowly crawl into your lap, avoiding eye contact—presumably so you won’t notice him dragging 60 pounds of dog body into your personal space.

When he’s excited, it’s like a tiny flicker of a thought lights up in his brain and instantly explodes into confetti. During a recent office visit—where SOMEONE, who will not be named, added fuel to his fire by pretending to put him in a wrestling hold (sound effects and all)—Sobe was so confused. Head tilted. Mouth open. Tongue out, of course. He looked exactly like a cartoon character saying, “Ruh?”—as if you could actually hear his little brain emit a soft dial-up modem noise just...trying... to... process. Then suddenly he LAUNCHED into the zoomies in a space roughly the size of a yoga mat. We were one slow spin away from submitting a building maintenance request for “hole in wall – shaped like dog.”

Too much. Just too much.

Sobe has done well with other dogs in our care. He’d probably love a dog friend who shares his zest for chaos and doesn’t mind being steamrolled by excess skin during playtime. But heads-up: in a super active play yard, he transformed into a mouthy goblin. We ignored him. His soul left his body. Once back inside, he returned to flinging a stuffed toy into the air like none of it had ever happened.

He pulls very hard on leash. But with a front-clip harness and some training, we think he’ll get it. He’s food-motivated—and takes treats like a dainty little mouse. He just needs someone who understands that he’s bouncy, zoomie, and possibly made of spare parts.

Sobe is currently at our Lorton Campus and is eligible for an Adoption Audition! What’s that? It’s a 5-day, no-strings-attached trial adoption. Take him home. See if you can keep up—or if he gently ascends into your lap and you never get up again.

Be sure to check the “shelter information” box to confirm location. We’re open Tuesdays and Wednesdays 12–5 p.m., Thursdays and Fridays 12–7 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays 11 a.m.–5 p.m.
