From the foster:
Brownie is a 3-year-old Chi-Corgi-Doxie mix with the most soulful, searching eyes… the kind that make you feel like he’s quietly reaching out, hoping to connect.

The shelter was completely overwhelming for him, but he found comfort in a calm foster home alongside his doggie companion, Cookie. Now that Cookie has found her forever family, Brownie is finding himself on his own again, and it’s especially important that he finds a peaceful place to land.

Brownie is a gentle, low-key little guy who doesn’t ask for much. He’s perfectly content to rest, observe, and simply be near you. He’s still learning that the world can feel safe, so he’ll need a quiet place where he can take things at his own pace. Right now, he’s not yet comfortable with hands-on contact, but he stays close, curious, and quietly engaged.

He isn’t asking for walks or activity… a cozy corner of your home or apartment, with occasional access to a small, safe, enclosed yard or balcony, is more than enough. He is houstrained.

While he once leaned on another dog for comfort, Brownie would likely do best as the only dog in a calm home where he can decompress on his own and build confidence without pressure.

There is something very special about him. You can see it in his eyes. With patience and kindness, Brownie has the potential to form a deep, meaningful bond with someone who’s willing to meet him where he is.

As his foster has upcoming travel, he's in need of a rescue or a quiet foster home or an adopter where he can truly settle, feel safe, and continue making progress.

Brownie is a 3-year-old Chihuahua who was feeling overwhelmed by the shelter environment. Thankfully he has been placed in a quiet foster home, with another dog that he was found with.

Brownie would greatly benefit from being pulled by a rescue or placed in a quiet, calm environment where he can decompress and begin to feel secure. With patience, consistency, and a peaceful home, Brownie has the potential to come out of his shell at his own pace.

He’s looking for someone who understands that trust takes time—and who’s willing to give him the space and kindness he needs to feel safe. For Brady, a calmer world could make all the difference. Please contact SJFoster@sanjoseca.gov if you are interested in rescuing him.
