Animal information

A167277

Located At: Santa Fe Animal Shelter
Description: My name is Malakai and I am a neutered male, brown and white Mixed Breed.
Age: The shelter staff think I am about 2 years and 9 months old.
More Info: I am now available for adoption.

You'll often hear Husky lovers joking about the famed Husky stubbornness, but after a few hours of staring into Malakai's hypnotic ice blue eyes, you’ll understand that Malakai isn't so much stubborn as always right! Does Malakai have an opinion on most people, places, and things? Well, naturally. Malakai walks so beautifully on leash, so if he wants to sniff a single blade of grass for three minutes, we say he’s earned it!Huskies have a reputation for aloofness, but Malakai will show all the love WHEN HE FEELS LIKE IT! He's a bit of a shy boy and prefers to make the first move, but he will reward gentle, patient humans with full body cuddles. Malakai's also a bit of a ham - he's the favorite dog of the teenaged MASTERS students who regularly visit the shelter!
Malakai is nearly 3 years-old and 65 pounds, enjoys the company of other dogs, is calm and easygoing in public spaces, and will sit on command sometimes, if he's in the right mood and you aren't insulting him by holding up a boring treat. He will truly thrive with someone who knows that great love takes time and enjoys a companion with a mind of their own. Here's what the volunteer who took him out had to say:

"Malakai is angel in the car. He rode quietly in the back and rested his head on the arm rest. We headed to Dale Ball Trail and hiked a bit. We met a nice couple on the trail. He was shy around them but they were very understanding and nice. There were a couple of other leashed dogs on the trail and Malakai was non-reactive. He walked nicely on the leash and enjoyed the interesting smells on the trail. We then headed to the mall and walked around. We met a few nice ladies and Malakai warmed up right away and was affectionate with them. He is definitely a ladies man although with patience I think he would warm up to the right man. He was non-reactive to a stroller and a wheelchair. We went in Teca Tu and got him a cookie. He was a perfect gentleman in the store and really thought the bully sticks were interesting. Overall he was a very good boy."

Malakai’s adoption fee has been waived thanks to our friends at Pacifico. He is neutered and microchipped and has age-appropriate vaccinations. A licensing/microchip fee may apply.
