Located At: Indianapolis Animal Care Services
Description: My name is Laverne and I am a spayed female, tan and black German Shepherd Dog.
Age: I am about 3 years old.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Aug 10, 2026.
Laverne is a 3-year-old German Shepherd who weighs 56 pounds and loves being part of whatever her people are doing. Her foster describes her as sweet, loving, and eager for attention, with plenty of energy for walks, playtime, and zoomies. Once her activity needs are met, she’s also a great sleeper and settles well in a crate when needed. For an adopter who enjoys an active routine, Laverne offers an affectionate companion to share both the busy parts of the day and the quiet time afterward.
Laverne would do best as the only dog in a home without cats. Seeing other dogs on walks can make her anxious and lead to barking and pulling toward them, so she needs someone comfortable managing those situations and helping her build calmer habits with patient training. In foster care, she has wanted to chase the cats, making a cat-free home a better fit. Her experience with children is unknown. Daily exercise, room for supervised play, and a predictable routine would give Laverne an outlet for her energy and a chance to settle. She has plenty of love to offer someone ready to meet her needs and welcome her into their everyday life.
All adoptions include support from our adoption team to ensure a smooth transition from the shelter to your home. Adopted pets are vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before leaving the shelter's care. To view our current available animals, please visit: https://indy.gov/activity/adopt-a-pet
