About Me: This chunky girl truly lives up to her name—she’s basically a gigantic potato, and she’s just as sweet as can be. Potato is a sensitive soul who can be quite fearful in the shelter environment. She doesn’t always want to leave her kennel for a walk, but with a little patience, encouragement, and a few treats, she warms up and is happy to head outside.
Once she’s out, Potato is a dream on leash. She enjoys relaxed walks and, even more, simply being close to her people. In the play yard, she likes to hang out nearby and soak up some quiet companionship. She’s the kind of dog who would be perfectly content enjoying peaceful walks followed by plenty of lounging and relaxing at home.
Potato absolutely loves treats and will happily show off her “sit” for one! Her waistline, however, says it’s time to cut back on the snacks. A healthier diet, measured meals, and a gradual exercise routine will help her get to a healthier weight. Since she doesn’t do well in the heat, early morning or evening walks would be ideal as she gets started on her fitness journey.
When it comes to other dogs, Potato appears comfortable seeing dogs pass by her play yard here at the shelter, but she is dog selective and gets along with some dogs better than others. Any canine introductions should be done thoughtfully to make sure everyone is a good match.
Potato may need a little time and patience to feel comfortable in a new environment, but underneath that initial shyness is a wonderfully sweet girl who simply wants to feel safe and loved. If your idea of the perfect dog is a gentle companion who enjoys leisurely walks, quiet time, treats (in moderation!), and hanging out by your side, Potato would love the chance to be your girl.

About Me: Potato is a chunky, sweet-as-can-be girl who truly lives up to her name! She’s basically a gigantic potato, and honestly, she’s just as lovable, comforting, and perfect as one could hope for.
Potato may have struggled with fear and anxiety in the shelter, but in her foster home, she has completely blossomed. Her tail never stops wagging and she has turned out to be an absolute dream of a dog.
Her foster family keeps waiting for her to do something naughty, but so far, she hasn’t given them a reason to!
Potato is a sensitive soul who may need a little patience and reassurance when she first enters a new environment, but once she realizes she is safe, her sweet personality shines through. She had some separation anxiety during her first 3–4 days in her foster home, but she has since completely settled in and is doing wonderfully. She has really come out of her shell and seems to be discovering just how nice life can be when you have a soft place to sleep, people who love you, and a couch to snuggle on.
And speaking of sleep… Potato LOVES to sleep.
She is crate trained and will even put herself to bed when she’s ready. If her people don’t put her in her crate at night, she will happily tuck herself in.
She is also very much not a morning dog! After she goes outside in the morning and eats breakfast, she will often put herself right back to bed while her foster works. She is 100% house trained and has had no issues in the home.
Potato enjoys a few short walks throughout the day and is much more spry than her chunky appearance might suggest. She is wonderful on leash and enjoys relaxed, leisurely walks without needing to go on long adventures. She is also working toward a healthier weight, so measured meals, a healthy diet, and a gradual exercise routine will help her feel her best.
But Potato’s favorite activity may be simply being near her people. She absolutely loves snuggling on the couch and is perfectly happy to curl up beside you while you relax or work. She also enjoys stretching out in the sunshine and even likes hanging out in the pool. She isn’t destructive or demanding and doesn’t need constant entertainment or hours of exercise. She is happiest simply being included in your day and soaking up all the love she can get.
Potato does love treats and will happily show off her “sit” for one, but thankfully she isn’t food obsessed. She doesn’t beg while her people eat, either — although her waistline would probably appreciate fewer snacks! She has the perfect combination of being treat-motivated without being completely fixated on food.
She has also been wonderfully gentle and sweet with everyone she meets. Potato completely ignores the cats in her foster home and has shown no issues with them. She has also been calm around other dogs while out on walks and did well spending time in close quarters with a friend’s older dog.
At the shelter, she appeared comfortable watching dogs pass by her play yard, although during playgroup she was considered dog selective and seemed to get along better with some dogs than others.
