I am a neutered male, white and black Great Dane mix.

Age: The shelter staff think I am about 5 years old.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Aug 25, 2026.
Ozzie is a diamond in the rough. Right now, he’s scared and watchful of his surroundings. But when he has time to feel safe, a sweet, joyful, goofy dog starts to emerge. During a week in a foster home, he showed how much he wants to be close to his person. He curled up against their legs at night, followed them from room to room (yes, even to the bathroom), and loved neck massages and belly rubs. Ozzie knows “sit,” can mostly “lay down,” and offers a good handshake. He takes treats very gently and is a bit like Elvis in his love for bacon and peanut butter. Once he felt more comfortable, he enjoyed playing with stuffies, both by himself and with a person. Fetch wasn’t his thing but he still enjoyed having toys. In the yard, he doesn’t really get the "zoomies". He gets the "gallops". He will play chase and play bow with his person once he feels more comfortable. It is a joy to see. Ozzie needs an experienced, patient adopter who understands nervous dogs and will let him adjust at his own pace. He would do best with one adult or a couple, without children. Their noise and unexpected movements would likely be stressful for him. His behavior with other dogs is unknown, and he has shown a prey drive around smaller animals, so a home where he’s the only pet would be a good fit. Someone who works from home would be a huge plus. A fenced yard would give Ozzie a more comfortable way to explore while he settles in. He is incredibly strong and pulls hard on leash, so his adopter needs to be able to handle him safely and start leash training right away. He may try to bolt through an open door when frightened, and he may have an accident inside while he’s learning a new routine. He can seem stubborn at times, but he’s also dealing with a lot of fear and uncertainty. Ozzie will need more time, patience, and consistency than many dogs. He’s worth it. As he begins to trust that he’s safe and home for good, more of that happy, silly personality will have room to shine. He is worth the extra time, patience and effort.
