Located At: Humane Society of Missouri - Longmeadow
Description: I am an unaltered female, chestnut Mo Fox Trotter.
Weight: I weigh approximately 1062.00 lbs.
Age: The shelter staff think I am about 16 years old.
Bio: Maci May came to us in the summer of 2024. She was unsure, but curious, of human interaction when she arrived. It didn’t take long for her to realize that we were there to help her. Once we gained her trust, Maci May began to shine.
After her routine quarantine ended and she became used to her new life at the Ranch, our trainers began her evaluation. While she was a bit nervous during tack up, we found that Maci May definitely had previous training under saddle. She knew bridle cues (mainly halting and backing up) and was fairly comfortable with a rider on her back. While her steering needed a bit of work and she mouthed the bridle quite a bit, Maci May was willing to work with her rider. She had some confusion when it came to moving forward without someone leading her or an equine buddy to follow, but we think with some training, Maci May could be a solid horse.
This red mare has a tendency to be pushy on the ground, so she will need an adopter who isn’t afraid to stand their ground and make some firm boundaries when necessary. While she does have some training under saddle, we believe Maci May would do best with a 60-day refresher course under a professional trainer. Due to poor conformation, we would not suggest her for any high impact activities.
Maci May is towards the top of the pecking order. We think she would do fine in a mixed herd of geldings and mares, or just with other mares. She is an easy keeper. While she is still learning to stand nicely for the farrier, we think with some patience and the proper training, she would learn how to behave in no time.
Adoption Fee: $700
Height: 15hh
Maximum Carrying Weight (includes tack and rider): 190lbs
