More Info: I have been at the shelter since Dec 16, 2025.
Bio: Meet Rogue! Rogue came to Longmeadow in the winter of 2025 and has been with us since. She spent 30 days in routine quarantine and then joined other horses in the big barn. After some time settling in, she was evaluated by our trainers.
Under saddle, Rogue is a lady on a mission! She has a big, purposeful walk, and her rider will often find themselves reminding her to slow down. She rides walk/trot, and our trainers have had the opportunity to ride her both in the indoor arena and around the ranch. She is a forward horse who would do best with an intermediate rider who is comfortable confidently reminding Rogue that it’s okay to stop and smell the roses sometimes!
Rogue can sometimes be a bit stubborn when we ask her to pick up her feet. Since we put front shoes on her to benefit her comfort, she has gotten better at picking up her fronts when asked. We believe this is likely related to weakness through her thoracic sling after having sore front feet for some time before coming to Longmeadow. She also appreciates having a buddy when she is in work, although her confidence is steadily growing as she gets out and has more positive experiences. With continued consistency and encouragement, we expect her confidence to keep improving.
On the ground, Rogue can be a bit pushy, but she is manageable for a confident intermediate handler. She has become more receptive toward our staff and trainers as she has seen that the people working with her genuinely listen to her, are mindful of her aging body, and will not ask her to do anything that could cause further harm. Having a job and experiencing consistent, positive handling has already begun to make a difference, and we expect that progress to continue.
Rogue’s forward nature could make her a fun option for an intermediate rider who enjoys a horse with some go. She may also be suitable for lead-line or for ponying behind a steady parent horse with a child, depending on the situation. Due to her swayback, we recommend that she have a lighter rider.
