The staff at the OHS call me a Star! Stars tend to be self-starters and like to spend part of their day on independent activities, like exploring every nook and cranny of your home! They also enjoy time with their family, but usually on their own terms. Their favourite family activities may include playing with engaging toys, participating in fun training games, or curling up for a nap somewhere close by. Stars are usually pretty resourceful and like to figure out how things work, so they benefit from places to explore and perches near windows. Stars may also be good candidates for harness training and leash walks outdoors! If you're looking for an entertainer with loads of personality, a Star might just be the purrfect match for you!
This animal has a malocclusion. The mandible (lower jaw) aligns abnormally with the maxilla (upper jaw): as a result, the teeth do not align with each other in a normal way. These misaligned teeth can cause trauma to the gums or other teeth or can prevent the mouth from closing or chewing properly.
A veterinarian has examined the occlusion of this animal’s teeth. If any teeth were causing trauma to other teeth or the gums or were preventing the mouth from closing or chewing properly, those teeth have been removed. Any remaining teeth do not appear to be causing an issue at this time. Ongoing monitoring of this animal’s dental health by a veterinarian is required. If this animal’s occlusion were to change and cause traumatic contact between teeth or the gums, your veterinarian may recommend dental procedures including annual dental exams, extraction of teeth, tooth remodelling or referral to a veterinary dentist.
This cat has been suffering from chronic eye infections while at the shelter. The most common cause is a herpes virus infection that can become reactivated when an animal is stressed or ill. When reactivated, the herpes virus attacks the respiratory tract and eyes, which may develop into bacterial infections. It can also cause ulcerations of the cornea. Feline herpes virus is not contagious to humans but could be contagious to other cats.
It is possible that this cat will have flare-ups of the herpes virus during stressful periods (new home, new baby, new pet, a move, etc.) which may or may not need veterinary care at that time. There is a slight possibility that they will suffer from chronic low-grade eye problems that may require ongoing medical management.
