Sweet Patrick seems a little puppy-like to me, but he’s listed as 2 years old. When I met him, he seemed as if he had been waiting for forever for a walk, pulling hard toward the exit doors and then peeing for a long time as soon as we got outside. Patrick was very curious about the smells in the yard, and wanted to catch up on all of his “pee mail” that he’d missed since whenever his last walk was. He was high energy at first, but I think that was just frustration from infrequent walks, as after we’d been out for a while and he’d gotten his chance to walk and sniff, he stopped pulling and flopped on his side in the grass and relaxed while I gave him pets. It was the body language equivalent of him saying “ahhhhhh”. Very sweet.
I didn’t get a chance to observe Patrick around any other dogs while we were outside as there were no staff members or volunteers walking at that time. I’ll update here when we find out more about Patrick’s preferences regarding other dogs!
Patrick’s puppy-like features and youthful energy seem out of place in a shelter kennel. He completely won my heart when he flopped on his side and was finally able to relax and enjoy some treats and pets with me. He needs more regular walks and enrichment than this temporary shelter kennel can provide and I think once he gets a chance to settle in to a new home, he will be an amazing family dog.
To visit Patrick, please go to Prince George’s County Animal Shelter in person, Tues - Fri 11am - 7pm or Saturday 10am - 4pm. You can read more info on adoption here: https://www.princegeorgescountymd.gov/departments-offices/environment/animal-services/pet-adoption
