What volunteers have to say about this animal:

Meet Ponyo – Supermom, Plush Toy Enthusiast, Ready for Her Next Chapter

Ponyo has spent her recent days doing one of the hardest jobs there is: raising a whole bunch of puppies. This retriever mix has been a wonderful mama, but now her babies are growing up—and Ponyo is ready for a little well-deserved time off.

This lovely girl is curious, affectionate, and wonderfully easy to hang out with. She enjoys exploring, walks beautifully on leash, and loves staying connected with her people. And when it's time to have some fun? Ponyo is all in.

What Ponyo Is Like:
- Sweet, curious, and people-oriented
- A lovely leash walker
- Loves attention and affection
- Absolutely delighted by plush and squeaky toys

Ponyo has a playful streak that is especially adorable to watch. Give her a plush toy and she'll happily trot around carrying it, while squeaky toys are also high on her list of excellent inventions. She can get enthusiastic when meeting new people, but she quickly settles into a more relaxed groove. She's a little more thoughtful about canine introductions, too. After an initial burst of excitement, Ponyo preferred to give another dog some space rather than dive right in.

Ponyo's Ideal Home Looks Like:
- Kids, on a kid-by-kid basis
- Other dogs, with a proper introduction
- A calm, loving home where she can finally be the one getting spoiled

Ponyo has spent enough time taking care of everyone else.

Now it's her turn to have someone take care of her. A soft bed, some good walks, plenty of cuddles, and as many squeaky toys as she can carry around sound like a pretty excellent retirement plan for this very deserving mama.

Condensed Staff Assessment Notes: Ponyo was curious and outgoing during her assessment. She enjoyed exploring outdoors and walked well on a leash with minimal pulling. Inside, she continued to check in while wandering around and showed a fondness for handling and engagement. She demonstrated good stability and understood the "sit" cue. Her favorite part was playtime, where she loved running and particularly enjoyed carrying plush and squeaky toys.

Initially, Ponyo greeted new people with enthusiasm, jumping up energetically, but she quickly calmed down. When meeting a new dog, she became cautious and chose to keep her distance after her initial excitement.
