Meet Chopper, a fourteen-year-old Siberian Husky mix weighing 65 pounds.
Some stories break your heart a little more than others, and Chopper's is one of them. After thirteen years with his owner, Chopper found himself at the shelter because his person was moving and couldn't take him along. Thirteen years of companionship, loyalty, and love, only to find himself starting over in his senior years. One of the hardest things to witness is a senior dog being left behind after devoting his entire life to someone.
Understandably, Chopper seems confused by this sudden change in his world. At his age, he should be enjoying the comfort and security of a familiar home, soft places to nap, and a family who will cherish him through his golden years. Instead, he's trying to make sense of a life he once knew being turned upside down.
Chopper is still a friendly boy who knows how to sit and is more than happy to work for a tasty treat. According to his previous owners, he has lived with children and other dogs, and he is potty trained. These details give us a little glimpse into the home life he's known and the companion he has been for so many years.
His coat is unfortunately damaged and matted, and he has needed a sanitary shave to help get him comfortable. He will need a dedicated person willing to work slowly and patiently on his grooming as his coat recovers. Senior dogs sometimes come with a little extra care, and Chopper will need someone who understands that his comfort and well-being are worth the effort.
