Meet Elderflower! At just 1 year old and a petite 35 pounds, this sweet girl is blossoming more every day in her foster home. She came to BARCS in need of some extra TLC, and while she has been recovering from a respiratory illness and working on gaining weight, she continues to show us more of her wonderful personality. She is a smart, affectionate young dog who is eager to learn and ready to discover how wonderful life can be.

Elderflower is gentle and incredibly friendly with people. She has met so many new faces during her time in foster and has loved every one of them. She is comfortable with people coming and going from the apartment and doesn't feel the need to bark or make a fuss when visitors arrive. She also did wonderfully during a weekend with a foster sitter, showing that she can settle in and enjoy time with new people even when her usual foster isn't around.

Inside her foster home, Elderflower is a devoted little shadow who would happily spend her entire day right beside her person. She loves being close and especially enjoys getting face-to-face with her favorite humans whenever she can. She is affectionate, playful, and full of personality, with a particular talent for making sure her people know that cuddles are an important part of the daily schedule.

Elderflower is also proving to be a smart and treat-motivated girl. She knows “sit” and “wait” and is learning that listening to her people pays off. She responds well to direction on walks and is even learning to sit at crosswalks when the light is red. She is the kind of young dog who is eager to figure things out, making continued positive-reinforcement training a fun way to help her keep building her skills.

Her housetraining has come a long way. She has not had any accidents recently and is becoming much more reliable about her bathroom habits. She is also learning that pillows are not chew toys and has been doing a much better job choosing appropriate things to gnaw on instead. Her Nylabone is a particular favorite, so giving this young girl plenty of appropriate chew options will help keep everyone—and the pillows—happy.

Elderflower is comfortable being left alone and simply sleeps in her crate while her foster is away. She knows “kennel” and goes into her crate willingly, making it a comfortable and familiar place for her to relax. When she's awake, she enjoys toys and especially likes chewing on her Nylabone, playing fetch, and having fun with her people.

Elderflower is a nice walking companion, too. She sometimes tries to pull when something catches her attention, but she responds well when redirected and already knows “wait.” She has been comfortable encountering people. She may notice what's happening around her, but she is generally able to keep moving along with her person. Elderflower has met other dogs at BARCS and prefers gentle, respectful dog friends. She requests to meet any resident dogs to make sure they're a good match.

Most of all, Elderflower is a sweet young dog who is making steady progress as she learns about life outside the shelter. She is affectionate, people-loving, intelligent, treat motivated, and eager to please. With continued patience, consistency, appropriate chew toys, and plenty of affection, this little girl is sure to keep blossoming into a wonderful companion.

Elderflower is currently enjoying the comforts of her foster home. If you're interested in meeting this affectionate, playful girl, please complete an adoption application and email dogfosters@barcs.org for next steps!
