Bio: ousetrained? Yes. She signals when she needs to go out. Never had an accident.
Good with dogs? Yes. She spends a lot of time with my friend's golden retriever and they get along fine. During her daily walks, she occasionally meets other dogs and does fine with them.
Good with cats? Unknown. She hasn't been around any cats while in foster care. I have no reason to believe there would be an issue with cats as she's non-reactive when spotting other animals during her daily walks.
Good with kids? Unknown as she hasn't been around children while in foster care. Alicia is very friendly around all other people.
Leash training? She is super easy to walk. Rated green. Alicia goes on an early morning walk Monday through Saturday and goes on a car ride to the bagel shop on Sundays. When walking on a leash, she likes to stop and sniff occasionally. She anticipates my movements and starts and stops when I do. She almost never pulls and when she does, is easy to redirect. She is also very good when riding in the car and is very calm.
Crate Training. Unknown. She hasn't had a need to be crated while in Foster care. She has free run of the house and is a good girl.
Training Commands: Alicia knows her name and responds when called. She knows come, sit, lie down, treats, walk and frequently responds to "go-to-sleep".
Describe cuddling behavior/affection level: Very affectionate. Follows me around the house and sometimes becomes a lap dog. Loves to be petted and touched.
Describe play behavior and favorite toys: Doesn't play much. Mostly sleeps and likes to get petted. A couch potato.
Look into the animal’s eyes. What is he/she telling you? "I love you and I feel safe and happy. Thank you for rescuing me".
What are the best adjectives to describe them? Calm, loving, curious, quiet.
What are the animal’s best qualities? Very well adjusted. Friendly with everyone she meets. Gentle. When taking treats, she is super gentle, even more so that my friend's golden retriever.........and that is saying something.
What are your favorite things about him or her? Cute behaviors? Very affectionate, non-reactive, no separation anxiety. Can be left alone for a few hours and she'll be fine. Cute behaviors include "purring" when being petted and moving her hind legs when getting belly rubs.
What is/are your favorite physical characteristic(s) of this of this animal? Nice size (around 40 pounds), very pretty face. Pretty black and brown markings
What would the ideal home look like for him/her? A quiet home. Maybe another doggie roommate. An owner who likes a lot of physical contact with their dog and who praises her. Being an indoor pet. Going on regular walks and an occasional car ride. Being able to sleep close to her person. Being allowed on the couch. A secure yard to wander around occasionally. An owner who is capable of meeting her special medical needs. Someone who LOVES her.
Anything else that would make this animal stand out to an adopter? Mostly that she is just a super sweet dog.
Medical Issues. Alicia has severe skin allergies and requires medications and frequent baths to manage her condition. She also requires a special HA diet. She still itches and scratches and licks herself a lot and frequently develops hot-spots that require attention.
Behavioral Issues. No behavioral issues observed other than the itching and scratching due to her medical condition.
