Bio: Chico is a handsome boy who was very loved by his former people. Here’s what they had to say about him:

“Chico is a good dog who needs someone who can take the time to care for and train him. He’s very loving and affectionate to his owners and is protective of his home. We were told his previous owner passed away and he was lost in the desert for three months until we took him in. He's a good boy who knows most basic commands- sit, drop it, lay down, shake, and is kennel trained/housebroken. He loves to play and needs strong chew toys. He loves balls and loves to play fetch and tug of war. He loves walks though he needs some help with leash etiquette.”

Sadly, it’s been more than a year since Chico’s former family said those things, and Chico is still in the shelter system. He has spent time in two different foster homes- here’s what his foster said:

“Chico is amazing. I was very heavy hearted to return him to the shelter. He was the best friend dog I ever had. He seemed to know turn around, shake, sit, lie down, and heel. He is eager to please his person. He was non- destructive in the home.”

“During his six-week foster stay, Chico proved to be an exceptional companion—sweet, patient, and calm, with a quiet confidence that made him a joy to live with. Fully house-trained and never destructive, Chico adjusted quickly to his new environment and was a model houseguest. Chico doesn’t require a crate, eats at his own pace, and isn’t food motivated—he’s simply content being part of a loving home. Chico’s favorite pastimes include riding in the golf cart or car, playing fetch, and showing off his tricks.”

Chico is beloved by staff and volunteers at the shelter as well and truly deserves to find a home. Here’s what some of his friends have said:

“I have walked Chico many times now and find him to be an exceptional dog. He is easy to leash and walks well. The last time I walked him he pushed up against my legs to get affection. I am really becoming fond of this overlooked guy.”

“Chico is so darn cute. He greeted me happily and he sat on command. He’s is so delighted to be out on a walk and explore everything around him.
Super nice dog who is settles down quickly for a walk after he gets his initial wiggles out.”

“Chico greeted me well at the kennel and took treats gently. He walked well to the yard and would check in with me. Once in the yard he was very excited and loved to smell everything. He got the zoomies and ran around with me for a bit. He was a very sweet boy and loved his time outside.”

“I walked Chico for the first time today and he was great! He was extremely calm and easy to leash up. He was very easy to walk and loved to sit for treats and some pets. Chico is a very friendly dog!”

“I took Chico today on a nice long walk through the park. He is easy to leash; he does pull a little at first but he settles in nicely after a few minutes. He knows sit and is very treat motivated. He is so friendly and enjoys his walks, he will make a wonderful companion.”

Chico will most likely do best as the one and only fur baby and in a home without kiddos. Chico is a sweet boy looking for a special family who sees what a gem he is. Please ask to meet Chico today!
