About: Precious: An Enduring Spirit Seeking Her Forever Home
Prepare to have your heart captured by Precious, an incredibly sweet 8-year-old blue and white Pit mix with a story that will move you. Her name truly reflects her endearing nature, but her journey to us has been a difficult one. Precious has been surrendered to the shelter three times since November 9, 2021, and we're hoping the fourth time is her lucky charm to find her forever home.
Precious first arrived when her family had to move and couldn't take her along. She then went to a new home that included another dog, a rabbit, a pig, and children – that's a lot of moving parts for any dog! Sadly, that home wasn't the perfect fit, and she found herself back at PACC.
We love Precious around here and have watched with sadness as her stay at the shelter grows longer each day. Despite her past, she's an active, happy, and bouncy lady who has so much love to offer the right family! Here's what one of her volunteer friends had to say:
"Precious has been at the shelter for several months. In that time, I have seen improvement in her behavior, which is the opposite of what happens with many dogs. She is housed with another dog and I see them playing together and also sleeping close together. Precious walks fine on leash but likes to burn off some energy in a play yard too. She knows sit and loves treats."
Precious' former people described her as a very nice pup who knows basic commands. When in a play yard, she loves to run around checking things out, but always makes quick "drive-throughs" for affection and scritches – a pop in for a snuggle and a kiss, then she's off to explore another part of the yard! We think in a home, she'll settle in for even more snuggles, as the shelter can be quite a lot for a curious lady!
During her most recent playgroup evaluation with other dogs, Precious was appropriate with greetings. While she needed a little bit of time to loosen up, she was interested in playing and tolerant of the other pups. She'd like to meet any resident dogs before heading home to make sure it's a good fit.
Important considerations for Precious's new home:
• Undocumented bites: Precious does have undocumented bites on her record.
• Stranger danger: She may exhibit "stranger danger." To ensure everyone's safety and avoid future incidents, she will need to be secured in a crate or separate room when visitors enter the home.
• Proper Introductions: Any new people she meets will require careful, proper introductions.
• Muzzle Training: Muzzle training is a highly recommended and valuable tool to keep everyone safe during introductions or when she might feel overwhelmed.
• Secure Yard: Precious will need a secure yard and should not be left outside unattended.
Precious is hoping to find a patient and loving family who understands the 3-3-3 rule—the crucial adjustment period for any shelter dog. This rule suggests: the first three days a dog is often overwhelmed, after about three weeks they begin to settle, and around three months they feel truly safe, secure, and have built trust.
Ask to meet this sweet, deserving dog today and help her finally find the forever home she's been searching for!
Adoption Process:
Available for long term foster care (30+ days) or adoption through PACC.
Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the 3:00PM Saturday June 7, 2025 deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.
HOME MANAGEMENT PLAN:
Bite History
• undocumented bites
Stranger Danger
• Your new dog is uncomfortable with new people, they may bark, snap, or flee from new people in their home.
• They need a slow introduction to new people, we recommend muzzle training for safe introductions.
• May need a safe place to be put away when new people come to the house.
• Your new dog would likely do best walking in quiet areas without a lot of traffic.
Containment Issues
• Precious has a history of escaping their yard and roaming.
• if there are hole in the fencing or under the fence she will go through, she needs a secure yard.
• When outside, make sure to keep a hold of their leash until they have settled into the home.
• Don’t leave them outside unattended, make sure you monitor them outside.
