About: Meet Cecily, a beautiful 6-year-old pointer mix who has been down on her luck for far too long. This sweet girl has never been given a fair chance at a stable and loving home. She came to us in April 2025 after being found scared and alone in a condemned house, without food or water. Despite her past, Cecily has a resilient spirit and a loving heart ready to share.

Cecily spent some time in a foster home after her spay and a mass removal, needing a quiet space to recover. During that time, we learned some valuable insights about her. She's house-trained (a huge bonus!) and does well when left alone. She enjoys playing with stuffed toys, is a lovely slow walker, and absolutely adores belly rubs. We also discovered she has a fear of bikes, which causes her to bark, but with a good hold on her leash and a redirection of her attention, both she and the cyclist can remain safe.

Volunteers who have spent time with her say she is a fantastic companion. Cecily loves car rides and walks well on a leash, making her the perfect hiking buddy for outdoor adventures. After a fun day out, she’s happy to be your couch potato, lounging with you and enjoying some quiet time. She can be a bit shy at first, but with a little patience, she warms up quickly and her easy-going personality shines through.
Cecily did have an incident in her foster home involving a small dog. While the foster was holding a small dog, Cecily jumped up and grabbed the small dog by the leg. When another large dog in the home intervened, and the foster grabbed Cecily by the collar, the foster was bitten on both hands. It was a devastating situation that led to Cecily's return to the shelter for a 10-day quarantine.

Cecily was recently returned from a foster home after a minor altercation with the resident dog while they were on long lines during a camping trip. The incident did not result in any significant injuries to either dog. Despite this, Cecily is a social dog at the shelter. She currently shares a kennel with another dog, enjoys going to playgroups, and socializes well with other canines. Cecily is also easygoing and affectionate with her handlers.
Cecily is a beautiful soul who simply needs stability and a loving family to call her own. She's proof that a little bit of love can go a long way, and she's more than ready to show you just how much she has to give. If you're looking for a loyal companion who is up for anything, Cecily is the dog for you.

Home Management Plan

Bite History
• moderate bite- victim/foster was holding a small dog, Cecily jumped up and grabbed the small dog by the leg, when the foster grabbed her collar she was bit on both hands.
Dog Selective: NO small dogs
• Must meet all dogs in the home prior to adoption.
• Selective dogs like to choose their friends; they may like some dogs and dislike others.
• Muzzle training can be a useful tool for initial introductions to new dogs.
• NO DOG PARKS.
Dog Introduction Required:
• Cecily will need to meet any other dogs in the home due previous altercation with resident dog.
Stranger Danger:
• Your new dog is uncomfortable around new people. They may bark, snap, or flee.
• They need a slow introduction to new people. Muzzle training is recommended for safe introductions.
• Needs a safe place to be away from new people coming into the home.
• Your new dog will do best going for walks in low-traffic areas where it is quiet.
People Selective: (mostly documented issues with men)
• Your new dog doesn’t like all people; they like to pick and choose their human friends.
• Muzzle training should be done for safe introductions.
• Make sure your dog is in a separate, secure space when new people visit.
Prey Drive
• May chase or pull towards small animals. May need a strong handler when out on walks.
• This can be an instinctual behavior, breed related behavior or learned behavior.
• Work with a trainer for behavioral modification.
No Cats
• Previous cats in former home kept separate due to Cecily’s prey drive deemed unmanageable
Children Caution
• Kids should not be left alone with any dog, always monitor interactions between your child and dog.
• Rough housing or grabbing at the dog could cause stress to the dog leading to unwanted behaviors.
• Give a dog a safe space to escape the kids. HIGHLY recommend crate training.
• Keep draglines on for at least two weeks or until the dog is comfortable with the children.
Needs Training
• Cecily can be leash reactive towards bikes, strangers, and other animals
• Work on positive reinforcement with your new pup.
• Reach out to TOP Dogs [topdogshelp@gmail.com] or an outside professional trainer for assistance.
