Bio: Some of the best things in life take time to mature and come into their unique beauty. Aged cheese, wine, seasonal wildflowers, oak trees, coral reefs- the list goes on and on! None of these can be rushed to develop more quickly than is natural, but once they do, the wait is so worth it! We’d love to introduce you to a sweetheart of a dog who is slowly coming into her own in the shelter. Ashoka arrived at the shelter so very scared; she was afraid of just about every aspect of shelter life, but she is showing her courage and tenacity and is starting to blossom. She has learned her routines and is becoming more comfortable every day. Here’s what some of her volunteer friends have said:

“Ashoka is a girl but with a lot of potential. She’s extremely treat-oriented and I think that's agood way to earn trust. She seemed to know what the leash meant and as soon as I got it over her head, she went to the kennel door and was ready to leave. After walking I sat under a tree with her and she would approach for treats. This sweet girl needs time and patience to decompress, but she demonstrated a lot of promising behavior. I’m guessing she’d be more confident in a home with another dog.”

“Ashoka is a courageous little baby girl who is learning to trust people in the shelter. When you meet her at her kennel door, she is friendly and bouncy and lets you know that she's excited to go out. She's head shy, which means she feels nervous with hands and objects around her head, but once leashed up she is easy to walk over to a play yard. She is a little treat hound and this is truly the key to winning her heart! She will approach for treats and even jump up onto your lap for them! She does great with her friendly confident kennelmate; he is helping her to feel comfortable with people. She will accept little nose boops and gentle pats when giving her treats. She really is a dog's dog and loves running around and playing with her kennelmate.”

Ashoka is looking for a very special family who will respect her and give her the time and patience to settle in and not expect her to be comfortable with handling right away. We truly believe that she will be worth the wait! She has loved her kennelmates and gained confidence from them in the shelter, and she may do very well to have a friendly, confident doggy friend in a new home.

If you believe in the adage, “Good things come to those who wait,” Ashoka is hoping that you will consider bringing her into your home and giving her a chance to shine! Come meet this petite sweetheart today!
