About:
Ethina is a sweet, medium-sized beautiful blue Pitbull with an unfortunate history of instability. She has bounced between different homes and the shelter far too many times. Her most recent ordeal was heartbreaking: she was abandoned, tied to the shelter's front gates after closing hours. Thankfully, dedicated volunteers found her before they left for the night.
This history means Ethina carries a deep desire for security and stability. She is desperately seeking a committed family who will help her feel truly safe and ensure she never has to worry about being discarded again. Ethina is looking for a home where she can finally thrive and put her past behind her. While she is generally reported to get along well with kids and other large dogs, she can be quite nervous when meeting new canine companions. For this reason, a carefully managed meet-and-greet with any resident dogs is a recommended step before she goes home.
Due to her reported history of prey drive, Ethina needs to go to a home without small dogs and cats to keep everyone safe and comfortable. Once she is comfortable, Ethina's true loving personality shines through. She is a loyal companion who comes with excellent home manners: she is already crate trained and does well when left alone.
This blue beauty has many hobbies—she absolutely loves car rides, is a champion cuddler, enjoys a good game of fetch, and relishes a splash in a baby pool on a hot day. Ethina is a wonderful, deserving dog ready to offer endless love to the family willing to give her the stable, permanent home she has always dreamed of.
Available for foster care (2+ weeks) or adoption through PACC.
Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the Close of business Friday November 14th deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.
Home Management Plan
1) No Cats or Small Dogs
• In a previous home, fataly injured a cat after unsafe introductions and prey drive towards cat
• Got in a scuffle with a small dog after being offered treats together
• May chase or pull towards small animals. May need a strong handler when out on walks.
• This can be an instinctual behavior, breed related behavior or learned behavior.
• Work with a trainer for behavioral modification.
2) Undocumented bite history:
• During an altercation with a cat, owner tried to get her off of the animal and had a minor bite when she redirected.
3) Potential Resource Guarding Food From Dogs - previous owner said scuffle was instigated due to feeding treats at the same time
• Feed your new dog at set times. Do NOT free feed your new dog with other dogs.
• Set up separate SAFE spaces where dogs cannot assess each other. HIGHLY recommend feeding in kennels or separate rooms.
