About: Meet Mackie Boy. Mackie came to us back in September after he was surrendered to the shelter. It turns out Macki would prefer a home with no young kids. Her is what one of his favorite volunteers had to say about him:
“ This older man is such a delightful, older gentleman! It was my first time meeting him and he was friendly in his kennel and easy to leash up. He was reactive to dogs in neighboring kennels as we entered and exited, but once we were outside he was not reactive at all. He was a lovely, easy walker. He makes great eye contact, has an endearing smile, and seemed so happy to get some attention. He was also very happy to get some treats, which he sat nicely for and took gently. I look forward to spending more time with this sweet boy.”
His most recent foster said that Mackie Boy loves belly rubs, is super cuddly, loves to give kisses, and know sit/shake/laydown. Overall, a perfect boy!
Available for foster care (2+ weeks) or adoption through PACC.
Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the Close of business Saturday November 15th deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.
Home Management Plan
1) Bite History
• 2 level 1 bites to a child. "the dog was laying down and my son of 2 was playing too rough pulling his ears when the bite happened."
2) Shy/Nervous Behavior:
• Mackie Boy needs patience and time to decompress at home.
• Go slow and don’t force handling, use positive reinforcement to earn trust.
• May not be immediately affectionate after adoption and will take time to warm up.
3) Children Caution: older children only 15yr+
• Kids should not be left alone with any dog, always monitor interactions between your child and dog.
• Rough housing or grabbing at the dog could cause stress to the dog leading to unwanted behaviors.
• Give a dog a safe space to escape the kids. HIGHLY recommend crate training.
• Keep draglines on for at least two weeks or until the dog is comfortable with the children.
4) DOG INTRO RECOMMENDED especially with more nervous dogs due to assertive behavior
