About: Rudy is a handsome 1-and 7 month-old Carolina Dog mix with a whole lot of love to give. This smart, people-oriented boy is eager to please and picks up on new things quickly. He's looking for a dedicated owner who is ready to invest time and effort into training and help him become the best dog he can be.
Rudy is a joy to be around, with a playful and gentle spirit. In dog playgroups, he's a superstar—he loves to engage with other dogs, respects their corrections, and gets along well with everyone. He takes treats delicately from your hand, knows his name, and is a delight to work with. He also loves car rides and is a great companion for walks and hikes.
Rudy's past has been challenging, but he's a resilient and sweet boy who deserves a fresh start. He is looking for an experienced owner who can provide him with the guidance he needs to overcome some behavioral issues, including a history of resource guarding and signs of separation anxiety. He has had a few incidents involving nipping and a more moderate bite with his previous owner, primarily around toys and when being petted. Because of this, he needs an owner who can be mindful of his body language, read his signals, and work with him patiently. He may also need caution with small dogs and a very secure kennel, as he has shown an ability to open them.
Rudy is a sweet puppy who hasn't had a fair chance in life. He has so much potential and is ready to shower his new family with love. Give this good boy a chance to show you what a loyal and loving companion he can be.

Available for adoption ONLY through PACC.

Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the 3:00PM Sunday August 10th, 2025 deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.

Home Management Plan

Bite History
• Moderate bite- owner was playing with him and had his toy in her hand when he went and grabbed her arm
Undocumented Bite History
• Twice owner was petting him when he low growled then nipped her but did not break skin.
Separation Anxiety
• Crate training can help prevent destructive behaviors.
• Some dogs get bored easily, offering activities such as frozen kongs, enrichments, music and TV sounds can keep them busy and help alleviate stress.
• Work with a trainer to help extend the length of comfort for your dog when alone.
Caution Small Dogs
• Owner stated negative experience with Rudy and a small dog
Resource Guards Toys From People:
• DO NOT forcefully take toys from a dog's mouth.
• Treat swap! Offer a yummy snack in place of the toy.
• Teach dogs drop it and leave it behaviors.
Resource Guards Food From People:
• Set a scheduled feeding time for your new pet. DO NOT free feed.
• DO NOT take food out of a dog's mouth using force. Teach Drop and Leave It behaviors.
• Give your new dog a safe space to eat; highly recommend kennel training for meals.
• Don’t ‘tease’ a dog with treat items or high-value food. [dangling food in front of their face, having them chase food in your hand, etc.
Children Caution
• Kids should not be left alone with any dog, always monitor interactions between your child and dog.
• Rough housing or grabbing at the dog could cause stress to the dog leading to unwanted behaviors.
• Give a dog a safe space to escape the kids. HIGHLY recommend crate training.
• Keep draglines on for at least two weeks or until the dog is comfortable with the children.
