Bio: You may have heard the term “fight or flight” when learning about the animal kingdom. Well, manatees are gentle potatoes who only have flight- if you startle them, they get the heck out of dodge as quick as then can! Well, our Manatee lives on land versus sea, but he is a bit shy and not a fan of being startled either! Manatee came to PACC as a stray and has shown that he needs a bit of help with socialization. Luckily, we have a dedicated volunteer crew to help him out on his journey! Here’s what some of them have said:

“I worked with Manatee today. Started with kennel time with him and his kennelmate. He was wary to begin with, but with his kennelmate’s help enthusiastically demonstrating touch and affection-seeking, he slowly allowed touch and developed a little trust. Manatee leashed slow and easy. He was nervous but didn’t panic. We had a good loose leash walk to the park, if a bit slow because he tended to be cautious and sniffed a lot. When we sat down, he allowed touch. Calm walk back and return to kennel, except for a brief balk at the shelter door. Slow and easy unleash. Aside from my being slow and cautious, a normal walk.”

Manatee has been gradually gaining confidence and has shown that he has so much potential! He shares his kennel with another PACC pup and has been tolerant, social and easygoing when meeting other dogs in playgroup. He would likely benefit from having a confident furry pal to show him the ropes in a home.

If you have a soft spot in your heart and a safe place in your home for a pup who needs a little bit of extra help and reassurance, ask to meet Manatee today!
