About:
Tova is a shy, gentle dog who’s learning to trust the world again. She takes a little time to warm up, but once she feels safe, her sweet and curious side starts to shine through.
She’s made a lot of progress here—walking more confidently, taking treats from our hands, and relaxing more in the yard with her buddy, Raisa. She likes to stay close and will check in for gentle pets when she’s comfortable.
Tova will do best in a calm home with people who understand that she needs time and patience. She isn’t ready for too much handling right away, but with a slow approach and plenty of treats, she’ll continue to come out of her shell.
Because she can be nervous and startle easily, she’ll need a secure yard and should be supervised outside. She would also do best in a home without small children, as quick movements or loud noises can make her uncomfortable. With other dogs, she prefers slow, controlled introductions.
Tova’s come a long way and has shown she’s ready to keep growing with the right person by her side, but a recent bite in the shelter has placed in her the position of need immediate placement, where she can continue to thrive out of the shelter environment. She just needs someone who’s willing to go slow, give her space when she needs it, and let her build trust on her own timeline. Once she does, you’ll see just how special she really is!

Available for foster care (30+ day minimum) or adoption through PACC.
Interested parties: Must visit PACC before the 3:00PM SUNDAY OCTOBER 12th at 3PM deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.

Home Management Plan
Bite History
• Level 3 moderate to victims face. "Dog was nervous while walking. Bent down to take collar to apply clip leash, she became fractious. Knelt closer to try to calm her down and she jumped up and bit face. Bit face once with large laceration on top of forehead and top of lip."

Handling Issues (NO FORCED HANDLING)
• Go slow and at your new dog's pace, does NOT like forced handling.
• Your new pet may fear bite if you force handling, give your new pet time to decompress in the home.
• Focus on positive training and interactions with your new pets.
• Reach out to TOP Dogs [topdogshelp@gmail.com] or an outside professional trainer for assistance.

Dog Introduction Required:
• Overly defensive in PG, over corrects, pot. to initiate verbal altercation, pot. for dog to tip onto her

Shy/Nervous Behavior:
• Tova needs patience and time to decompress at home.
• Go slow and don’t force handling, use positive reinforcement to earn trust.
• May not be immediately affectionate after adoption and will take time to warm up.

Escape Risk
• Tova likes to adventure and may find ways to escape their confinement.
• Monitor outside time, do not leave unattended in the yard.

Prey Drive
• May chase or pull towards small animals. May need a strong handler when out on walks.
• This can be an instinctual behavior, breed related behavior or learned behavior.
• Work with a trainer for behavioral modification.

No Fowl
• Was brought in for killing turkeys and chickens

Children Caution (due to nervous behavior)
• Kids should not be left alone with any dog, always monitor interactions between your child and dog.
• Rough housing or grabbing at the dog could cause stress to the dog leading to unwanted behaviors.
• Give a dog a safe space to escape the kids. HIGHLY recommend crate training.
• Keep draglines on for at least two weeks or until the dog is comfortable with the children.
