About: The Handsome Solo Star Seeking a Single-Pet KingdomMeet Flotsam, a magnificent 3-year-old black and white American Bulldog mix who certainly knows how to make an entrance! He found his way to PACC in a highly dramatic way—after getting a ride with a finder who also picked up his smaller look-a-like companion. Flotsam's big feelings and high stress led to a scuffle in the car before they even reached the shelter. We believe his assertiveness (including mounting behavior) was a major factor in the disagreement.Flotsam is a big, handsome boy who is truly looking for a calm, stable, solo life where he can finally relax and focus entirely on his favorite person.Flotsam is a dog who needs an experienced owner committed to managing his environment to ensure safety and success. He is absolutely worth the effort, but his management requirements are non-negotiable:
Only Pet Status: Flotsam's history confirms he is not compatible with other dogs. He must be the only pet in the home.
He is reactive when separated by a fence or a leash, and he can be assertive when face-to-face. He should not be taken to dog parks or any public areas where close interaction with other dogs is unavoidable.
Flotsam would thrive in a home without children or with older, dog-savvy teens who are skilled at reading and respecting a dog's space and warnings.
When you first meet Flotsam, you must be prepared to go slowly and patiently. Forcing interactions or physical handling will not work with this sensitive guy. He needs an adopter who will:
Respect his boundaries at all times.
Allow him to initiate contact and attention on his terms.
Commit to earning his trust over days, weeks and months.
If you are looking for a loyal companion who will offer you his entire heart in a one-on-one partnership, come to PACC and ask to meet Flotsam today!
Available for foster care (2+ weeks) or adoption through PACC.
Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the Close of business Friday November 14th deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.

Home Management Plan
1) DOG INTRO REQUIRED
• Previous altercations in past home with sibling and then altercation in vehicle while being brought to PACC as a stray
2) Dog Selective:
• Must meet all dogs in the home prior to adoption.
• Selective dogs like to choose their friends; they may like some dogs and dislike others.
• Muzzle training can be a useful tool for initial introductions to new dogs.
• NO DOG PARKS
3) Shy/Nervous Behavior:
• Flotsam needs patience and time to decompress at home.
• Go slow and don’t force handling, use positive reinforcement to earn trust.
• May not be immediately affectionate after adoption and will take time to warm up.
4) Possible Containment Issues
• Flotsam has a history of escaping their yard and roaming.
• When outside, make sure to keep hold of their leash until they have settled into the home. Don’t leave unattended.
