Bio: Bongo is currently a solo rockstar looking for a family to create a band. This handsome black and white gentleman has yet to meet a toy that he doesn't like, and has the energy to play with them all! Tug toys, chew toys, kongs, flirt pole, indestructible ball, even weighted dumbbells - if he CAN play with it, he WILL. Bongo has high potential to do well in a variety of dog sports! He has the drive, the smarts, and the will to learn. He is the type of dog that dog enthusiasts dream of - sweet, intelligent, and always ready to go.
This young 2 year-old boy was on a deadline for shelter decline, as you might imagine for a dog as smart and energetic as he is. He was saved in the nick of time - TWICE! But he’s no cat with nine lives, and Bongo needs a forever home that can take him on the next steps of his journey. Because he has been in foster, we have learned a ton about him.
- Affectionate and loving
- Housetrained from day one
- Never chewed on anything that wasn't his
- Perfect gentleman when left alone, and does well in a crate
- Good with older kids (13-14 years old and older)
- Fantastic at picking up new commands in training
- Walks well on a leash
- Enjoys making friends with visitors in the home or on walks
- LOVES toys!
- Good in a car
- Can be independent, though he likes being near his people
- Is working with a professional trainer while in foster
His foster said that "Bongo was comfortable in the crate during the day and would sometimes hang out or nap there with the door open. He liked to collect his toys in there, carrying them one by one from wherever they were in the house. Very cute! He loves and needs toys- tug toys, squeaky toys, chew toys, Kongs, ropes, balls… He enjoys tugging games and to be chased with a toy in his mouth. He would sometimes take a toy out on the deck or into the room where I was working and just amuse himself quietly with it.
Bongo will be an exceptionally loyal and pleasant friend for the right household. Bongo has responded beautifully to professional training, and does best when his routine is maintained in the home. It doesn't take much, and he loves working through play! He's bright and willing to learn. His energy is uncomplicated, still puppy-like in some ways but thoroughly adult in others.”
This sweet dog has proven that given just a bit of time, he settles beautifully into a home, relaxing and learning how to go with the routine. He is looking to start a solo act, preferring to be your own and only.
Bongo is looking for a home that can keep him secure and loved. One that can help work his brain AND his body. And one that can commit to a lifetime of love and affection. Thanks to a generous donor (his temporary foster), anyone interested in adopting Bongo will be provided with a stipend for continuing his lessons with his trainer so he is set up for success in his forever home!
