About:
In Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Dobby becomes a free house-elf when Harry Potter tricks Lucius Malfoy into giving him a sock. Our Dobby would also like to be a free house- elf… free from the shelter and living in a home of his own!
Dobby lived in a home for about a year before being surrendered to the shelter when his people moved. He reportedly well with smaller dogs and LOVES toys:
“Dobby loves playing catch with balls. Every time someone goes outside with him, he immediately grabs his toy to play.”
Here’s what one of Dobby’s fans at the shelter said:
“I love hanging out with Dobby. He’s really easy to walk and walks beautifully right next to you and does not pull at all. He will take treats and allow pets but he does appreciate it if you go very slow and respect his space. One of my favs!!”
Dobby shares his kennel with another PACC pup and has been independent when meeting other dogs in playgroup. He may benefit from having a calm, confident doggy friend in his future home. Free Dobby- ask to meet him today!!

Available for foster care (30+ Day) or adoption through PACC.
Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the COB Wednesday October 14th deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.

Home Management Plan
1)Dog Introduction Required:
• Reason: Selective with males and lights up on weakness in playgroup.
• Slow, Structured Introductions: Introductions must be gradual and carefully managed in neutral territory. Monitor all body language closely, and end sessions on a positive note.
• Muzzle Training: It is recommended to condition Dobby to a comfortable basket muzzle before introductions. This provides safety and allows for positive experiences during early meetings.
• No Dog Parks: Dobby should not attend dog parks or other uncontrolled environments. These settings can overwhelm or trigger negative interactions, making progress more difficult.
• Behaviors could improve with proper management and/or professional training.
2)Dog Selective - selective with males and lights up on weakness in playgroup:
• Required Dog Meetings: Dobby must meet all resident dogs prior to adoption to ensure compatibility.
• Selective Play Style: They prefer to choose their own friends - they may get along well with some dogs but not with all dogs. Introductions should be monitored closely for positive body language and relaxed interactions.
• Muzzle Training: Conditioning them to a muzzle before introductions is recommended. This provides an added layer of safety while keeping initial meetings low-stress.
• No Dog Parks: Dobby should not attend dog parks or other uncontrolled social settings. These environments can lead to negative experiences and may set back progress.
• Behaviors could improve with proper management and/or professional training.
3)Shy/Nervous
• Decompression Period: Allow Dobby ample time and space to settle into their new environment. Pushing interactions too soon can increase stress and delay progress.
• No Forced Handling: Avoid handling that Dobby does not initiate or consent to. Let them approach on their own terms. Use high value treats, calm praise, and gentle encouragement to build trust.
• Building Affection: They may take time to show affection or seek attention. Every dog adjusts at their own pace - patience and consistency are key to helping them feel secure.
• Confident Dog Recommended: They may benefit from living with a calm, confident dog who can model appropriate behavior and help build trust in new environments.
4)Resource Guards Food From Dogs
• Circumstances: per previous owner
• Dobby may guard valued items such as food, toys, bones, or resting spaces.
• Management: Do not attempt to take items directly from their mouth or reach into their food bowl. Instead, trade with a high-value treat or toy to encourage voluntary release or when picking up a food bowl, call the dog away from the bowl into another room before picking up.
• Feeding Protocol: Feed them separately from other pets and in a quiet, low-traffic area. Allow them to eat undisturbed. Remove food bowls only after they have finished and moved away.
• Muzzle Training: Conditioning them to wear a muzzle can be beneficial during resource-handling practice or when introducing high-value items around people or other animals.
• Professional Support: Work with a qualified trainer or behaviorist to develop safe management and counterconditioning techniques.
• Recognize Warning Signals: Be aware of early signs of guarding behavior, such as stiffening, hovering over items, growling, or showing teeth. Respect these signals by calmly creating distance and redirecting their focus.
5)Needs Proper Cat Introduction - OS notes state negative experience with cats, no further details
• Separation Period: Keep Dobby and any resident cats fully separated for a minimum of two weeks to allow decompression and scent acclimation before any face-to-face meetings.
• Do Not Rush Introductions: Never place them directly with cats upon arrival. Gradual exposure through scent swapping, barrier greetings, and calm observation is essential for safety and success.
• Muzzle Training: Muzzle training is highly recommended before the first in-person introduction to ensure safety for both them and the cats.
• Supervision: All interactions should be closely monitored, and introductions should end on a calm, positive note. If tensions arise, separate immediately and return to an earlier step in the process.
