About:
While aerial fireworks are steadily being replaced by drones and light shows, those of us who grew up with them lighting up the skies on the 4th of July can certainly tell you our favorite burst patterns! What are yours? Perhaps the aptly named chrysanthemum, or willow, with their glittering tendrils falling towards the earth, or perhaps the fish or comet patterns, shooting up, up and away? While they may be going out of fashion, these light shows will be a core memory for many of us. If you’re looking to build another core memory, we recommend you come down and meet Archie, a pup bursting with life and love! His volunteer pals think he’s pretty fun, with one sharing:
“Archie is a little sparkly firecracker of a puppy! He is high energy, bouncy, friendly, full of beans! No puppy should be cooped up in a kennel all day! I know that Archie would love to get in a home where he can have structured training and lots and lots of playtime! He’s a wild and wacky puppy and enjoys spending time in the play yard with his kennelmate and volunteer friends. After playing with his kennelmate and burning off some energy, he fancies himself a little lap dog and bounced up onto my lap for pets and cuddles. If you’re looking for a fun and outgoing adventure buddy, I think Archie would be your perfect match!”
Archie shares his kennel with another PACC pup and has been playful when meeting other dogs in playgroup. Archie is looking for a family committed to helping him learn his fundamental very good dog skills; he is eager to engage with people, loves treats and will pick up consistent training in a snap! If your home could use the lightness and fun that a loving, spunky puppy will bring, come meet Archie today!
Available for foster care (30+ Day) or adoption through PACC.
Interested parties:
Must visit PACC before the COB Monday October 12th deadline to meet with a counselor who will review notes and introduce you to the dog to ensure that it’s a good fit. Some dogs may also require an introduction to any dogs they may potentially live with.

Home Management Plan
1) Undocumented Bite History:
• Incident Details: undocumented bite to a child in the face, unknown if skin was broken.

2) Resource Guards Items or Food
• Circumstances: Unknown - Owner stated "guarding possessions".
• Archie may guard valued items such as food, toys, bones, or resting spaces.
• Management: Do not attempt to take items directly from their mouth or reach into their food bowl. Instead, trade with a high-value treat or toy to encourage voluntary release or when picking up a food bowl, call the dog away from the bowl into another room before picking it up.
• Feeding Protocol: Feed them separately from other pets and in a quiet, low-traffic area. Allow them to eat undisturbed. Remove food bowls only after they have finished and moved away.
• Muzzle Training: Conditioning them to wear a muzzle can be beneficial during resource-handling practice or when introducing high-value items around people or other animals.
• Professional Support: Work with a qualified trainer or behaviorist to develop safe management and counterconditioning techniques.
• Recognize Warning Signals: Be aware of early signs of guarding behavior, such as stiffening, hovering over items, growling, or showing teeth. Respect these signals by calmly creating distance and redirecting their focus.

3) Possible Resource Guards Space From People
• Circumstances: Unknown - Owner stated "guards one person."
• Archie may guard personal space, such as their bed, crate, couch, or a specific area or human beds in the home.
• Muzzle Training: Muzzle training is strongly recommended for the introduction to new people during work involving their personal space. This ensures safety and reduces stress.
• Professional Support: Establish clear, consistent boundaries and seek guidance from a qualified trainer to help manage and modify space-guarding behavior.
• Management at Home: Create a calm, designated area where they can rest undisturbed. Instruct family members and visitors not to approach or attempt to pet them in this space. Allow them to come to people on their own terms.
• Recognize Warning Signals: Watch for early indicators of guarding, such as stiffening, growling, or positioning between people and their resting space. These signals should be respected by calmly disengaging and giving distance.

4) Possible Resource Guarding Space From Dogs
• Circumstances: Unknown - Owner stated "guards one person."
• Archie may guard personal areas such as a bed, crate, or resting spot from other dogs, especially in tight or shared spaces.
• Provide Individual Spaces: Ensure each dog in the home has their own designated area for rest, eating, and downtime. Avoid placing beds, crates, or feeding areas directly next to each other.
• Respect Boundaries: Do not force dogs into each other’s space or allow them to crowd one another, particularly during rest or when settling in new environments.
• Supervision: Closely supervise interactions during the initial adjustment period. If tension or guarding behaviors arise, calmly separate and redirect each dog to their own area.
• Training Support: Work with a qualified trainer to help build positive associations with shared spaces and reduce competitive behaviors over time.

5) High Drive Behavior
• Archie displays high-drive behaviors such as jumpy/mouthy, difficult to re-direct.
• Energy Management: High-drive dogs require constant mental and physical enrichment to prevent frustration and unwanted behaviors.
• Enrichment Ideas: Provide structured outlets such as training sessions, puzzle feeders, scent games, agility, or other interactive activities that challenge both mind and body.
• Handler Expectations: These dogs thrive with clear structure, consistency, and purpose. Without appropriate outlets, they may develop destructive or attention-seeking behaviors.

6) Destructive Behaviors
• Archie may engage in destructive behaviors such as chewing, digging or shredding items - often due to boredom, anxiety, or lack of stimulation.
• Crate Training: Proper crate training can help prevent destruction when unsupervised and provide a safe, calming space for them.
• Enrichment & Stimulation: Many dogs become destructive when under-stimulated. Offer daily mental and physical activities such as frozen kongs, puzzle toys, scent work, or enrichment games. Calming background noise (music or TV) may also help reduce stress.
• Prevention: Keep valuable or unsafe items out of reach and redirect inappropriate chewing to acceptable outlets.

7) Needs Training
• Archie would benefit from training support to address leash training, housetraining.
• Positive Reinforcement: Focus on reward-based training methods to encourage desired behaviors and build confidence.
• Professional Guidance: Reach out to TOP Dogs at topdogshelp@gmail.com or consult an outside trainer for additional support and coaching.
