Animal information

A071632

Located At: TJ O'Connor Adoption Center
Description: My name is Rollie.
I am a female, cream Anatolian Shepherd.

Age: The shelter staff think I am about 11 months old.
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Sep 24, 2026.
OTHER PETS: Rollie is a young, big girl who loves to play and she would likely get along with another well-socialized dog of similar size willing and able to play with her. Despite her size she is fairly timid and will need time to adjust, including a slow introduction to a resident dog, and slow integration. A meet is a must.
[Likely (With proper introduction)]

OWNER EXPERIENCE: Experience with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn will be Rollie's ideal match. In addition to being a puppy Rollie is very anxious and can be scared by anything new. A new guardian will need to take things slowly and allow her to set the pace, and it'll be important to keep her world small as she decompresses in a new environment. Anatolian Shepherd's are also livestock/working dogs, which means she is likely an independent thinker who will need patience and guidance. Experience with this breed or other dogs bred to be independent would be beneficial to Rollie but not required.
[Experienced]

KIDS: As previously mention Rollie is very anxious and enjoys greeting people by jumping, so she is not a good fit for a home with young children. Minors and dogs should be actively supervised to be sure everyone is safe and comfortable.
[13 +]

ACTIVITY LEVEL:Rollie is young and full of youthful energy. Because of her size, age, and playfulness Rollie would greatly benefit from varied, regular exercise combined with mental enrichment such as food puzzles, games, sniffing outings, and learning some fun tricks once she's relaxed. Providing both exercise and mental enrichment will help meet her needs while preventing boredom, and having fun.
[Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]

VETERINARY CARE: Routine visits to the vet will help keep Rollie in her best possible condition as she's grows and flourishes.
[Routine]

LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement will help Rollie build a human-canine bond while building confidence, and help her learn new skills and fun tricks including how to keep paws on the ground during greetings. Dogs use jumping to be social, the best approach is to quietly stop the interaction until paws are on the ground, and the interaction can continue.
[Ongoing]

GROOMING: Anatolian shepherds have a thick undercoat, and Rollie also has a fairly long overcoat so she'll need consistant brushing especially when she's shedding. A good relationship with a groomer to give Rollie a through brushing out to remove dead hairs will be a must for her. Failure to do this will leave her fur matted which is very harmful to her health. Regular baths and nail trimmings will also help keep Rollie in her best condition.
