Located At: San Luis Obispo County Animal Services
Description: My name is Newton and I am a male, tricolor Welsh Corgi - Pembroke mix.
Age: I am about 10 years old.
Weight: 26.20 lbs
More Info: I am currently available for adoption.
I have been at the shelter since Jul 19, 2025.
From Newton's foster:
If you're looking for a small, smart, laid back senior pup, Newton is the one. He's house-broken, quiet, sleeps in his bed, is a good passenger on car rides, (which he loves), and is always up for walks. Can you ask for more?
Newton started off pretty standoffish and cautious around his new humans. Although not particularly playful with people, he is very affectionate once he gets to know you. He gets along with our other small dog, though is not playful with him. We have taken him to the new Laguna Park Dog Park and he gets along quite well with the other dogs. He hasn’t been around young children and while he likely won’t be aggressive towards them he also won’t be their playful best friend. It appears he’s happy to share his home with a doggy buddy though would probably thrive better as a single dog in an adult household. He alerts on cats, squirrels and other prey on walks, so it’s uncertain how he’d do living with a cat.
He does get on the furniture when left alone, but knows it's not allowed and gets off quickly on command. Despite his short little legs, Newton is up for long walks. Three mile hikes do not faze him. He does need to be on a leash though, because he tends to follow his nose. Having said that, he’s also shown a homing instinct to his current temporary surroundings, suggesting he’ll adapt himself to any good home. We are working on teaching Newton some basic commands. Being food motivated he'll probably get them down quickly.
