Meet Bogie the German Shepherd of the golf course puppies! These sweet boys are the perfect mix of playful, affectionate, and full of personality! Like many German Shepherd mixes, they're intelligent, energetic puppies who will thrive with families committed to giving them both physical exercise and mental enrichment every day. A tired puppy is a happy puppy, and providing them with training, puzzles, walks, and playtime will help prevent those typical puppy chewing habits. Speaking of chewing... they're currently in their "everything looks like a chew toy" phase, so having plenty of appropriate chew toys on hand is a must! They're also incredibly food motivated, making training both fun and rewarding. They're eager to learn and would love a family excited to continue building on the foundation they've already started. If you're looking for a constant companion, these boys are your match. They love following their people everywhere, are incredibly affectionate, and are always ready to snuggle once they've burned off some energy. They're also quite the conversationalists and aren't shy about singing you a song when they have something to say! These boys have been well socialized in foster care and have done wonderfully around large dogs, cats, and even chickens. They are curious, confident, and enjoy being part of the action. They're doing an amazing job with potty training. They currently go outside every hour and immediately after meals, and with this routine, they haven't had any indoor accidents. They're also wonderful crate sleepers and happily sleep through the night in their crates. These boys will do best with active families who understand that puppies—especially working-breed mixes—need structure, consistency, training, and plenty of outlets for their energy. In return, you'll gain a loyal, loving, goofy best friend who will happily follow you on every adventure and then curl up beside you for cuddles at the end of the day.
If you're looking for an adventurous, intelligent, affectionate companion who will keep you laughing and love you with their whole heart, one of these boys may be the perfect addition to your family.
These pups are available for preadoption—come meet them, fall in love and take them home after their spay/neuter surgeries!
The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw!
Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
