If you like your Pitties small and low to the ground - meet Athena: a slightly older Pocket Pittie who appears to have had several litters and then was surrendered. Shelter staff think she is about 8-9 years old and weighs about 50 lbs. In the fall of 2024, she had surgery to remove a mammary mass. She is healed up and ready to find her forever home!
Here’s what her foster says about Athena:
Athena is an absolute sweetheart! She loves people, dogs, walks and affection! She will cuddle with you on the couch or lie on the floor near you.
Athena allows full handling. She rarely barks, although sometimes she will try to get your attention! She is mostly housebroken and has mastered the doggie door. She loves wandering around and sunbathing in the yard on sunny days.
Athena also loves to go on walks and wants to meet everyone. She is strong and may be able to pull you. A harness makes a huge difference.
Athena is working on her commands and house manners. She is smart and wants to learn. She just needs guidance because she was never trained in her former home. She likes to climb on the furniture (including tables!) and tries to steal things off the counter. Her foster sometimes asks Athena to stay in a crate when there are no humans around to avoid accidents.
Athena lived with dogs before being surrendered, but she should not be with small dogs. She does not know her own size and tends to overwhelm them. She also has a prey drive, so no cats.
Currently Athena is on a once-a-day pill for scratching and licking, which may be allergy related.
Athena is truly a lovely dog; She is loving, sweet, and funny. With more training, she will make some lucky adopter a wonderful companion!
