What did we do on today’s adventure:
Today, my friend took me to the Los Gatos Hills and we ran to Lexington Reservoir! When I first saw him again, I got soo excited, he could hardly get my harness on! I ran straight for his car once we were in the parking lot, knowing we were going on another fun adventure. He had a big tug rope ready for me in the back seat– I don’t fully understand why he wouldn’t play tug with me on the drive to our adventure though. We parked near downtown Los Gatos and ran 2 miles along LG Creek Trail to the reservoir. We had a nice, long cool down along the edge of the water. It was windy out so I experienced waves for the first time–those were scary initially but then I found out how fun they are to dig at! I was able to get lots of snacks (preferably the soft beefy ones please), back scratches, I chewed up at least 6 pieces of driftwood, and we had a long session of tug-o-war with the rope! I was also fascinated by the rowers on the reservoir! After the 2 miles back to the car, my friend told me that he was taking me to PetFood Express for a sniffari and a special treat; he however, did not let on that there was a bath included in this part of the adventure ??. Though it wasn’t my favorite activity, the butt and back scratches that came with the shampooing made it okay, plus I knew there was a tasty ice cream treat waiting for me after getting cleaned up. I can’t wait to have a permanent adventure buddy… Do you think that could be you?!

What should potential adopters know about me:
Today was my 3rd Tails & Trails with Dunkaroo since January, and I’m shocked no one has swooped in and taken this guy! Though it has been a couple of months since our last adventure, he recognized me as soon as he saw me, rushing as fast as he could to get to me, then wiggled and hopped all over the lobby as I attempted to harness him up. Dunkaroo LOVES his people! He's quite goofy and loving–for half our drive, he was pushing me to play tug with him, with the other half of the ride spent either asking for treats, kissing the side of my face, or ever so slightly sticking his snoot out the window. 90% of our run, he was by my side, and out of my peripheral, I could see him continuously checking in. The other 10%, he ran just ahead of me but never allowed for the leash to get tight. To be honest, he’s kind of a lazy runner–he made it the entire 4.5 miles just fine but for a dog of his stature and presumed breeds, I was a bit surprised that I was the one setting the pace today. During our break at the reservoir, he shared a lot more of his goofy personality; self entertaining mostly but also enjoying the peace of the environment, and of course the treats and scratches. Twice on our day out, Dunkaroo did get overstimulated and became a bit mouthy. It's playful behavior and I was able to redirect it with the tug rope but considering his size, and some jumping attached to the mouthiness, a household that can be disciplined with training and work with him on those manners will be important. I want to stress that this was a very small portion of our day together; of nearly 4 hours adventuring, under 3 minutes was spent redirecting this mouthy behavior. We didn’t encounter many distractions today but the few dogs, squirrels and other critters we passed, he didn’t pay much, if any attention. The one thing that would distract him was other people on the trail, whom he just wanted to become friends with lol. He can be startled by loud noises; we ran past some construction which made him quite uneasy but with positive reinforcement and continued motion, he followed me past the scary sounds. We finished our day with a bath at PetFood Express which was not his favorite activity but he was well behaved and allowed the process to happen with little complaint (he did try to bite at the dryer hose a couple of times but, again harmless and more playful than anything). Come on Bay Area community, don’t let Dunkaroo end up on another adventure with me–as much as I’d love to spend more time with him, he deserves an amazing family that can take him on so many more adventures.

Three words to describe me:
Goofy Affectionate Easy-going

What did we do on today’s adventure:
Dunkaroo went for a walk along Coyote Creek trail at Shady Oaks Park, going about 6 miles, then got to stop for a Starbucks pup cup on the way back to SJACC. He was very well behaved and surprisingly easy to walk, handled people, bikes and passing dogs well.

What should potential adopters know about me:
I expected Dunkaroo to be much more difficult to manage with the warning on his webpage but was pleasantly surprised at how well- behaved he was. He actively checked in during the walk repeatedly and seeked out pets and cuddles when stopped. He was truly very good. His demeanor changed when we got back to SJACC, started getting a bit wild on his leash, jumping and thrashing.

Three Word to describe me:
Friendly, enthusiastic, curious

Dunkaroo is an energetic, loving 1.5-year-old dog, possibly a Staffie mix. He thrives on play, especially with children, and has shown great aptitude in training with fosters and at our Pawp Up. House-trained, he's lived with various family members and other dogs.

His high energy can lead to mouthiness during play, indicating he needs ongoing training for safe interactions. Dunkaroo has moved homes several times due to temporary fostering and household changes, not his behavior. He's returned often, highlighting his need for a stable, active home where his energy is channeled positively.

He seeks a committed family or individual who understands the needs for activity, mental stimulation, and loving guidance in shelter dogs. Dunkaroo offers boundless love, loyalty, and joy to those ready for an enthusiastic companion.
