More Info: I have been at the shelter since Jan 08, 2025.
Lars is an extremely fearful dog who struggles with handling, often pancaking on the floor or urinating in fear when approached. He needs a calm, patient environment and would greatly benefit from being in a quieter, more controlled setting outside of the shelter. Due to his size and history, he requires a rescue experienced with fearful dogs to help him overcome his anxiety and build trust.

Lars has made a lot progress since arriving at the shelter. While he can be wary of strangers and takes his time to warm up to new people, once he bonds with you, he becomes a lap dog and is very affectionate. On a leash, Lars has made noticeable improvements- he used to pancake on the floor but can walk on leash. He does pull and will need someone who can continue to work on his training. He’s playful with smaller dogs and enjoys their company, he is normally in the small dog play groups at the shelter. Lars can be selective with larger dogs, especially if they get too close to his face and are more rough players—he prefers a little space and respect. Lars can be mouthy and puppy like when he is really comfortable with you, so an experienced handler who can guide him and provide structure will be important. If you’re looking for a loyal, fun companion and have experience with with this breed, Lars could be the perfect fit for you. He’s sure to bring joy, and with a bit of patience, he’ll show you just how wonderful he can be!
