FOREVER (A1369119) was placed on final on 08/28/2025.

Summary of Behavior:
Forever is a 4-year-old spayed pit bull who has displayed consistent kennel reactivity, including lunging, barking, growling, and attempting to bite through kennel bars. While she has tolerated handling outside of the kennel and successfully went offsite for her spay surgery, her persistent stress and unsafe kennel behaviors have continued to escalate, resulting in her placement on final.

We do not have the resources available to care for this pet with these specific needs at this time.

Path Forward:
Rescue or Adopter must commit and *pull* Forever by 5 PM on 09/08/2025, or Forever will be humanely euthanized.? Rescue or Adopter will also need to have a waiver signed and submitted prior to leaving with the dog.

****FOREVER IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER. ADOPTION OR RESCUE ONLY****

EXTENSION REQUEST PROCESS:

A Rescue Group (RG) may request an extension of an animal’s Needs Rescue Final Date no later than 10:00 a.m. on the noted ‘final date’ via email to the SJRescue@sanjoseca.gov with a cc to a Division Manager or Shelter Operations Supervisor.

A one-time extension up to 72-hour may be granted to accommodate RG, but are not guaranteed based on capacity or condition or other constraints.

What did we do on today’s adventure:
Today was my very first "Trails & Tails" adventure and I was bouncing with excitement to get out and explore the world! I hopped into the car right away because I LOVE car rides - especially when I get to stick my head out the window and feel the wind in my ears. I love car rides so much that I didn't really want to get out when we reached the park, but eventually my curiosity won out. Once we started walking, I was a great trail companion - I didn't get bothered by other dogs, people, or bikes passing by, though I did notice some squirrels that caught my attention briefly. The best parts of our walk were all the incredible smells I got to investigate - when I find an extra special scent, you’ll hear my snorty sniff. I loved taking breaks to snuggle up in my walkers lap for some good scratches. But my absolute favorite thing is my signature move - flopping down for a good roll in the grass (or pavement) before continuing our adventure. There's nothing quite like a perfect roll to make any walk even better!

What should potential adopters know about me:
Forever is a bouncy and energetic pit mix who brings joy and enthusiasm to every adventure. She's a car ride enthusiast who loves sticking her head out the window and could probably ride around all day if you let her. She was minimally interested but unreactive when passing other dogs, people, and bikes. She shows some interest in squirrels but she's easily redirected and will keep moving if you do. She's incredibly affectionate and snuggly, always ready to curl up in your lap during rest breaks for some quality scratch time. She is very treat motivated and has mastered a strong sit command, which is helpful when she occasionally gets overexcited and grabs the leash - a quick sit and treat gets her right back on track. She would thrive with an active family who appreciates her playful energy and post activity snuggles.

Three words to describe me:
Bouncy, Goofy, Affectionate

08/23/25 Dog placed on Needs Rescue Urgent status due to severe kennel reactivity and high FAS. Dog consistently displays lunging, growling, barking, and attempts to bite through kennel bars, especially when hands are near the kennel. Behavior has escalated over time and is likely related to kennel-induced stress. Rescue placement is urgently needed for behavior management and safety.
