DANNY (A1365359) was placed on final on 07/22/2025.
Summary of Behavior:
This dog is being placed on final due to extreme and severe stress in his kennel. He spends the majority of his time spinning in circles, barking intensely, and jumping repeatedly—behaviors that indicate significant distress. While he is friendly, calm, and manageable outside the kennel, the intensity of his stress while kenneled has seriously compromised his quality of life, necessitating this decision.
We do not have the resources available to care for this pet with these specific needs at this time.
Path Forward:
Rescue or Adopter must commit and *pull* Danny by 5 PM on 07/29/2025, or Danny will be humanely euthanized. Rescue or Adopter will also need to have a waiver signed and submitted prior to leaving with the dog.
****DANNY IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER. – ADOPTION OR RESCUE ONLY****
EXTENSION REQUEST PROCESS:
A Rescue Group (RG) may request an extension of an animal’s Needs Rescue Final Date no later than 10:00 a.m. on the noted ‘final date’ via email to the SJRescue@sanjoseca.gov with a cc to a Division Manager or Shelter Operations Supervisor.
Extension requests must be from the RG interested in in the animal, include specific information as to delays in rescue commitment, specific care arrangements, or other time-based mitigating factors that warrant an extension. A one-time extension up to 72-hour may be granted to accommodate RG, but are not guaranteed based on capacity or condition or other constraints.

What did we do on today’s adventure:
Danny and I started our morning with a peaceful car ride—he was the perfect passenger, sitting sweetly and quietly in the backseat, sneaking kisses over the console now and then. We took a leisurely walk through the charming Willow Glen neighborhood, where Danny pranced across lawns, rolled in the dewy grass, and soaked in the morning sunshine. He walked like a pro on leash—no pulling, just a steady pace and joyful tail wags. We took plenty of breaks in the shade, and Danny made it clear he loves both a good stroll and a good lounge. He greeted everyone we passed with full-body wiggles and a happy tail. A perfect little gentleman with a big heart!
What should potential adopters know about me:
Danny is a dream dog in the making. He loves walks, rides calmly in the car, and checks in often with his person. Still, just a young pup, Danny has that playful puppy energy—he’s curious, bouncy, and full of life—but he’s also surprisingly well-mannered, even when excited. He’s not much of a sniffer—he prefers to keep moving and enjoy the walk—but he loves to play and would thrive in a home with plenty of toys and fun activities. He gets excited to see people, is uninterested in other dogs on leash, and easily redirects when needed. While he may show some shelter stress in his kennel, outside of it, he shines. Danny is to find a home with structure, playtime, and lots of love. Bonus: he gives the sweetest kisses and will charm you with his goofy joy and soft heart.

What did we do on today’s adventure:
OH BOY OH BOY what a day!!! I knew something awesome was happening the moment I saw we were heading out to the car with my new human friend. We got in the car and I stuck my whole face out the window—SO MANY SMELLS. When we got to the trail, I was READY. I was bouncing, I was leaping, I might have gently nibbled the leash (just a little). But when asked to “sit” - I did, and got a treat! I’m a “very good boy” according to my human friend. We hiked FIVE miles. I was full steam ahead at first—there were squirrels to chase, people to ignore (I’m very polite), and grass to sniff. My human said I pulled a bit when I saw a squirrel. But when I was told to “sit”, then “stand”, then “heel” – I got a treat. By mile three, I realized… maybe I’m not a long-distance kind of guy. I’m more of a “wrestle with a friend and roll on my back in the grass” type. But I kept going, because I'm strong and brave and also because I heard there would be more treats and belly rubs. The ride home was heaven. I chomped on my bully stick (YUM), laid down like a tired little loaf, and and took a tiny nap. Sigh - I love going on adventures!
What should potential adopters know about me:
Danny is a very playful pup. He is very trainable and will follow your commands like “sit”, “stand”, etc. He can sometimes be overly excited, especially at the start, but if you use that opportunity to do some “sits”, he’ll settle down soon enough. He ignored all the bikers, joggers and people that went by. He would get excited with the occasional squirrel, but he’s easy to re-direct with a treat. He did great on the hike, but he also would be just as happy sitting around, rolling in the grass and just getting belly rubs. He’s a very sweet goofball, and he’s ready to provide a lot of love and fun to his furever family.

Danny has been on medication to help with severe kennel stress (high FAS). Danny has been repeatedly circling in kennel while barking, jumping off kennel door and walls. Quality of life has been negatively affected by his high FAS. Danny has been placed on urgent needs rescue. OK for adoption or rescue pull.

Here is Danny's report card from Tails and Trails!
What did we do on today’s adventure: Danny and I explored Almaden Quicksilver Park! He jumped right into the car, switching between watching the scenery, chewing his bully stick, and coming up front for kisses. On the trail, he walked nicely without pulling, checked in often, and had fun chasing butterflies. He politely greeted other walkers and dogs, and stayed responsive throughout. After our hike, we stopped at a pet store - he proudly carried his toy out to the car and relaxed peacefully during the ride back to the shelter.
What should potential adopters know about me : Danny is a happy, playful one-year-old with an adventurous spirit and a heart full of love. He’s very friendly, social with both people and dogs, and participates in dog playgroups. Danny listens well, has great recall, and already knows “sit.” He’s also very affectionate and loves checking in with his person for pets. Though he’s still learning, he’s eager to please and responds well to direction - making him a great candidate for continued training. Danny would make a wonderful addition to any home.
