I am a neutered male, black and white Siberian Husky.
Age: The shelter staff think I am about 5 years old.
Found At: I was found at Lanai Ave/Pensacola Dr
More Info: I have been at the shelter since Aug 07, 2025.
Domino (A1390714) was placed on final on 10/08/2025
* DOMINO (A1390714) has been granted a 72-hour extension. Rescue must commit and pull Domino by 10/14/25 at 5:00 PM.
Summary of Behavior:
Domino initially presented to the shelter with nervousness and a stiff body posture, showing hesitancy to approach and occasional freezing when handlers attempted petting or handling. Once acclimated, he tolerated basic handling and routine veterinary care, responded to treats, and demonstrated an interest in play. Domino knows basic cues such as sit and shake and regularly checks in with handlers, showing that he is capable of engagement and learning.
While generally manageable in the kennel and during play, Domino has exhibited high arousal and resource guarding. Most notably, he bit a foster’s hand when she attempted to move his water bowl, resulting in an injury. This incident indicates that he can react aggressively when his resources are perceived to be threatened, posing a significant safety concern for humans. Domino has shown no aggression toward other dogs in foster, but his high arousal and unpredictable reactions with people place him at risk.
Due to these behaviors, particularly the resource guarding, Domino requires careful handling/management and has been placed on final.
Path Forward:
Rescue must commit and *pull* Domino by 5 PM on 10/11/2025, or Domino will be humanely euthanized. Rescue will also need to have a waiver signed and submitted prior to leaving with the dog.
**** DOMINO IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER OR ADOPTION. RESCUE ONLY****
EXTENSION REQUEST PROCESS:
A Rescue Group (RG) may request an extension of an animal’s Needs Rescue Final Date no later than 10:00 a.m. on the noted ‘final date’ via email to the SJRescue@sanjoseca.gov with a cc to a Division Manager or Shelter Operations Supervisor.
Extension requests must be from the RG interested in in the animal, include specific information as to delays in rescue commitment, specific care arrangements, or other time-based mitigating factors that warrant an extension. A one-time extension up to 72-hour may be granted to accommodate RG, but are not guaranteed based on capacity or condition or other constraints.
