***Ra (A1390910) has been placed on final on 06/25/26***

He must be pulled prior to 5:00 PM on 07/10/26 or he will be humanely euthanized.

Ra originally came to ACS in August of 2025. He was confiscated from his owner for an animal cruelty investigation. In September of 2025, he began showing signs of severe kennel stress and struggling with living in the shelter environment. He was sent to a rescue in March of 2026, and now is back at ACS. During his time at the rescue we’ve received unconfirmed reports of (2) bites.

Ra continues to show the same behavior as previously documented; growling and lunging at the body slamming kennel doors, alarm barking, biting at the kennel doors and obsessively licking the kennel walls.

When Ra is outside his kennel with a competent handler, many positive behaviors have been noted. He allows full handling with a toy in his mouth and will lean in for full pets. He knows sit and loves to chase balls. Ra is also very fond of the kiddie pool. He has a “Rough and Rowdy” playstyle and needs a slow and supervised introduction to other dogs. He is also tolerant of muzzle to ensure safe interactions.

Ra’s risk assessment scored him at “Extreme”. His behavioral needs include extreme kennel frustration and maintaining safety ng when he is in a state of high arousal. He has been receiving prescribed behavioral medication, which has not been providing a meaningful beneficial effect. His case has been reviewed by a veterinary behaviorist, who made the following comments:

“Outcome Options

There are several factors to consider:

1. Welfare: Ra's severe, repetitive stereotypic behaviors (wall-licking, spinning, pacing) indicate a profound deficit in his quality of life that cannot be alleviated in a standard kennel setting.

2. Volunteer and Staff Safety: The transition from toy-focused redirection to direct hand-targeting represents an escalating safety hazard for handlers.

3. Liability: Due to his history of high arousal, potential (though unverified) bite history, and current behaviors, he can only be adopted to a very narrow adopter pool, and he must be transferred to an outside rescue.”

Ideal placement: A Foster-based rescue, where he can decompress from living in a kennel environment for the past 9 months. We also recommend slow introductions to other pets and a household without any small children.

Based on these observations, Ra has been placed on FINAL status due to the reported behaviors at the shelter and concern for future escalation.

Path Forward: Rescue or adopter must commit and *pull* Ra by 5 PM on 07/10/26, or Ra will be humanely euthanized. Rescue will also need to have a waiver signed and submitted prior to leaving with the dog.

****RA IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER OR ADOPTION, RESCUE ONLY****

EXTENSION REQUEST PROCESS:

As Ra urgently needs to get out of the shelter, he is being given a 2-week final timeline. No extensions will be considered.
